Idk where else to put this, but I'm looking at old-timey QB stats for the Mt. Rushmore thread, and I come across this little gem.

Lynn Dickey - 1970
Kansas State
10th in Heisman voting
180 comp
364 att
49.5 comp %
2,163 yds
7 TD
26 INT
91.4 rating (~150 was good back then)
negative rushing yardage
KSU went 6-5
.
What in the actual fuck?

Lynn Dickey was a quarterback for 15 seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. He played college football for the Kansas State Wildcats and was selected in the third round of the 1971 NFL draft by the Houston Oilers, where he spent his first five seasons. Dickey was a member of the Packers for his remaining 10 seasons, leading them in 1982 to their first playoff appearance since 1972 and victory since 1967. He also led the league in passing touchdowns during the 1983 season. he was inducted to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1992.

A lot of good examples of how human rankings often are ... "suspect", and generally worthless anyway.  We currently have college baseball and basketball rankings.  Aside from broad interest, do they have any value?

Or wine rankings.  Nope.  In this case I'd argue they are worse than worthless as some folks base purchase decisions on them.  Now I get that if one understands the basis for wine points/rankings, maybe it provides some insight.  Maybe, if one understands them.

Even in 1970, the "good" QBs had a 1:1 TD:INT ratio, and led their teams to a good record.  They'd have a 55-60% comp rate and/or would be a rushing threat with a few hundred yards on the ground.  "Field General" stuff.

This guy didn't do any of that.  At all.  But he was 10th in Heisman voting?  There's no argument for that.  None.

I looked up Fran Tarkenton's stats as a senior in 1960, 7 TDs and 12 INTs.

Zeke Bratkowski from the 1940s, senior year:  6 TDs and ... 23 INTs.

I had forgotten really how "rare" TD passes were back in the day, even for "good QBs".  Maybe some QBs elsewhere had pretty good numbers, but I don't recall any "passing teams" circa 1960 in major CFB.

Spurrier played 1962-4, his senior year he had 16 passing TDs and 8 INTs, his junior year he was 14/13, which was quite good back when I was an old man.

Staubach had 4 and 10 in his senior year, which resulted in a Heisman.

Stetson Bennet, viewed as a kind of "game manager", was 27 and 7. Obviously a VERY different era on a team that relied a lot on defense (and played in more games).
