Not terrible this year so far.  Two major busts.  It's rare for a top 3 to bust.  

Where were the Hoosiers ranked last year at this time?

I suppose he's saying that last year, at 10-0, they were ranked #5 in the country. They were behind three 1-loss teams (OSU, Texas, PSU). 

That said, I don't know that matters. Last year they hadn't beaten any ranked teams at the time they played; this year they beat a then top-5 Oregon team on the road, and absolutely obliterated a then top-10 Illinois team. 

So one way to take it is that in 2025 they're getting the benefit of the doubt based on their 2024 finish, which is why they're #2 instead of #5 right now. But another way to look at it is that by beating two ranked teams vs zero ranked teams at this point in the 2025 season, and perhaps some of the 1-loss teams behind them being weaker, you can argue they're #2 based on their results and no benefit of the doubt is needed.

Or in other words, FF didn't give you any answer at all. He's just pot-stirrin' as usual...

They'd be 3rd if last season was a normal IU season for them.  Because voters have the nuance of children.

I wouldn't call the Horns a bust just yet,they could run the table.And no one and I mean NO ONE had tOSU doing it after the M* game

I like how the committee gave IU a lot of cred for the last second win at hapless Penn State and voted them #2. 

Meanwhile there is an SEC team out there who pretty  much did the same thing, on the road at Top Ten Notre Dame, and is undefeated, yet they rank them #3.  And this same team bodied a ranked team (top 20 in the CFP and AP/CP) on the road. 

Oh that poor, persecuted SEC. Can't catch a break.
