I very briefly interacted with some Oregon fans here when the played the Dawgs in ATL a bit back.  They seemed "normal", but they were staying at a Marriot nearby.

I've met "bad fans" from every school, most seem to be decent types, but I'm hesitant to categorize all of them based on the few I might meet.

Ducks came to Lincoln in 2016 - Huskers upset the #22 ranked Ducks in a entertaining game
didn't notice any issues with their fans that weekend
they also visited in 85 & 86 - didn't bring many fans back then - Huskers thumped them pretty good in the 70s & 80s

In my experience, fans that travel for games are generally better than the home crowds which often include some "townie" types.

lol....that's the first time I've seen road games being described as an opportunity to keep out the riff-raff.

Keeps out the visitor riff raff, not the home team's.

It's access to/availability of tickets as much as anything else.  Visitors get 4K seats in Austin.  Only the wealthier fans are going to have access.  I'm not saying wealthier fans are always better behaved than local townies, but, well...

I think this is mostly true.  I recall looking at tickets to the UGA/ND game in SB (I lived in Cincy then).  They were around $400, and someone suggested I wait, and then they went to $1000 (bad seats).  I demurred, but most folks able to drop that much change on a game will be fairly well behaved in public.

Not gonna be any unsold tickets for good opponents.

And nobody wants to go see bad opponents including their own fans.

So you have a premium seller's market for the games against teams whose fans actually want to travel for the game.  Which means more expensive tickets, and therefore visiting fans with more money, buying those tickets.  Less riff raff.

It's not necessarily directly wealth-related, it's probably more age-related.  Older fans tend to have more money than younger fans, and older fans tend to cause fewer problems than younger fans.

That's not true for us, but it probably will be in the future.

We went to Nebraska in 1975, and lost, but that lesson only stuck for a generation, so then in the late 80's we went to Ohio State, and lost there too, but that only lasted for another generation or two, so a few years ago, 2016 maybe, we went to Lambeau (vs. Wisconsin), and lost again.  Those are just off the top of my head.  I'm pretty sure there have been more.  We probably lost them as well.

Hopefully the lesson is learned and we stay outta Yankee-land

Speaking of ticket prices, I wonder if the Texas Rumble (A&M v Texas) in Austin this year (seems weird being in ATX in an odd-year) will bring higher prices than Kyle did last year or about the same.
