it really doesn’t bother me, I’m not trying to claim A&M is a blue blood or something. I am genuinely curious to see where we slot on the viewership chart.

Anecdotally, there seems to be a divide within Texas and outside it that explains some of UT being a bigger deal.  Within the state, people who care about this stuff tend to see UT and A&M more as competing flagships.  Not even saying they're unaware of history, win%, etc., I just mean they tend to view UT as a big deal and A&M as the other big deal.  But outside of Texas, people who care about this stuff mentally classify things by state for obvious reasons, and UT not only has the better history, but they have the name.  Texas.  Which is not to say people are unaware of A&M, but it's like they have one team per state that's going to pop into their head, and for here, it's UT.  They view UT as the state's flagship and A&M as "that other school in Texas."

No idea how universal that is, just something I believe I've noticed in my sphere.

I'm very surprised LSU made the top 10 for that time frame.  The 90's were abysmal for LSU except for two seasons, and post-2019 has ranged from "back to abysmal" up to "meh."  Ol' Nick and Les musta won themselves a lot of games in the other half of that time frame.

Take out Boise and Appy and it looks even better.

We don't want to be too harsh on Appy.  After all, they are better than Michigan.

I'm very surprised UNL made the top 20.  93-03 was obviously great, but things REALLY fell off since 03

Don't forget, they're also better than Jimbo Fisher's A&M.

I don't disagree.  We usually fall somewhere about #18-22 on the Top Programs list.  We could probably move up a few spots, kind of like how LSU has managed to climb up that ladder since the late 90's, but we've never been able to break out of that cycle.  I think the only teams that really have are LSU, Florida, and Clemson.  Nebraska and Tennessee are going down in the pecking order, UF, LSU, and Clemson have been going up.

This is a prove it year, but:

Obviously I don't particularly care about Wisconsin aside from respecting their program, but this schedule makes me mad for them.
I'm worried for a 3-5 start, where things could go off the rails.  5-7 probably, but 3-8 more likely than 7-5, imo.

Auburn to my knowledge hasn’t done shit since 2016 and they certainly don’t own their state. Texas certainly didn’t own this state from 2016-2022.

Auburn has an 'SEC waiver.'  It's literally a religion down south.
If you notice, the next school outside of the top 18 is another SEC school.  While I assume it's A&M, it could just as easily be South Carolina, which has no business being that high, other than the 'SEC waiver.'

nope, w/o the $$$ from a decent TV contract, they would decline
Eh, their results weren't so bad.  They could've poached the XII, too.  With USC and then Oregon, they had enough to matter.
But maybe college football fan street cred doesn't pay the bills.

television revenue is the only thing that pays the bills

plucking a couple programs from the B12 wasn't going to get them a fat contract

I've often seen Wisconsin listed as one of the big teams that doesn't have a NC, looks like y'all were quite close over the years.
A couple of those 1-loss UW teams never got any respect, which was stupid.  The '98 team never got above 8th, I think, despite starting out 8-0 or 9-0, wound up in the RB with 1 loss.
They couldn't pass at all, just handed it to Dayne a ton, and had a great defense.  Hell, if '98 Wisconsin played in 1978, they'd be held up on a pedestal to this day, lol.

Never underestimate the foolishness of an entity with lots of money wanting to spend it.  Whichever network didn't have prime college football deals already may have thrown it the PAC's way.

But you're probably right.
