Seem to be missing Thai. 

While I'm sure we'd all rank things differently here or there, I'd put Thai in the top 25.

I like most of'em, I would have to put French first (or get divorced), Italian second, then it gets tough, Thai/Korean/Japanese/Mexican/Chinese/Indian/Malaysian...

Definitely Top 25.  And for me personally probably Top 10.

If you think critically about it N America really started to get settled in the 1600's.  1620 was the Mayflower if I remember my history.  Shit, Columbus was 1492 so really only a hundred or so years (128 years between).  There really wasn't much in N America.  One just couldn't set out for Florida or Texas or wherever because they were in truth considered unsettled or wilderness.  No protection, probably no or few ports.  
I can trace some of my ancestors that got directly off the boat in Galveston in the 1850's.  Straight from England.  Apparently Galveston was a major port for immigrants so a lot of them did come straight south once there were ports and infrastructure and protection.

Jamestown was the first permanent English colony.  The Spanish had their first at St. Augustine, FL (North America).  I understand the early "pilgrims" knew their latitude and expected winters about like England, but were badly mistaken.  I guess once you scratch out some existence it's tough to uproot and have everyone go south.  Winters in Jamestown aren't awful of course.  In summer they would be fighting malaria and whatever else.  Jamestown was briefly abandoned, they were starving.  Eventually, most folks moved a bit inland to Williamsburg to get away from mosquitos.

Perhaps the most favorable fact about the location was that it was uninhabited because the leaders of the nearby indigenous nations[14] considered the site too poor and remote for agriculture.[15] The island was swampy and isolated, and it offered limited space, was plagued by mosquitoes, and afforded only brackish tidal river water unsuitable for drinking.

I used to ask my wine knowledgable friends if they could drink wine from only one country forever what would it be.  I got some deep thoughts, and then they all said France because no other country has anything comparable to Champagne.  Several really like Italian wines in general, and US wines as well.

As for food, I like a lot of diversity, so sticking to one country's cuisines would be tough for me.

The food I think of typical in the US would be things like turkey and dressing, grilled steak, barbecue (the real kind), shrimp/lobster/fish (common around the world).  Turkey and BBQ are almost uniquely American, I'd add pork chops to that almost.

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking.

So, smoked turkey might be the most uniquely American dish of them all?
