Much of Europe is rural. The vast majority, in fact. We've travelled by train over there. There's a whole lot of not much between large cities.

Turkey's so bad at English, they misspelled their own country!
When I was in Turkey as couple of weeks ago, a tour guide told me they have officially change the spelling and pronunciation of the name.  Guess they were tired of the Turkey jokes.

Classic case of being able to dish it, but not take it.

In Turkey, their word for a turkey is hindi, which is also their word for India.

Much of everywhere is rural, lol.

Wait, did you not understand I was talking about English usage?!?  English usage/ability is high in urban areas and non-existent in the rural areas, for clarity.

Ahh... I did NOT catch that was your meaning. I thought you were just saying Europe was mostly urban...

They speak very little English in Istanbul in my experience.

Istanbul is ... historically interesting, but we really didn't enjoy it as much as the usual European capitals (it's not a capital I know).

We never felt any threat when in Istanbul, even at night.  I was "told" there is property crime but they don't go after tourists, I don't know if that is the case.

I've certainly felt threats in Paris on many occasions.  Is Istanbul safer than Paris?  I don't know, but the possibility of getting robbed is higher in Paris for tourists I think.
