"Consider the type you like the best at a very good restaurant, and leave out any European kind."
I'd have French and Italian 1-2 otherwise.  I'd have Greek in there somewhere, but it's akin to Turkish I think.

There is a French-Russian fusion place here that is excellent ($$$) my wife was just asking me about.  We have not been in years.

As I noted, I omitted Europe, but as noted above, "Mexican" and "pizza" now are "American"  they are so pervasive.  Spaghetti would be Chinese if we stuck to history.

If you haven't tried Peruvian, give it a go.

Ah I missed the part omitting European styles.  Seems silly to me but okay.

I guess I'd consider pizza ubiquitous enough to no longer be considered ethnic, but in general I still think of Italian as very ethnic.  It's quite regional of course and the food in Liguria has distinct differences compared to the food in Tuscany, but that's just further argument for its legitimacy as ethnic food.

And Mexican food might also be ubiquitous in the USA, but good Mexican food is not, and so I'm comfortable with it maintaining its own distinction as well.

I have, but I don't think it was at a top level.

The two places near us claim to be "South American", which I suppose they are.

e're in the south, and it's in "America".

The first time I ever had Mexican it as pretty bad, to me (and likely pretty bad anyway).  I got sick later that night, so I didn't have "mexican" for a long time.  I have a friend who won't eat Indian food because he tried it and didn't like it.  Once.

My wife loves some things I don't much care for, foie gras is one, Caviar is another.  I can eat them, but for the $$$ I just let her have whatever is there.  I bought her a tin of caviar at Whole Food a few days ago, on sale, $20 off, still $60 for a little tin.  For me it's just salty nodules, I can pass.

We were at her friends place in Brazil a while back and were have various appetizers, and a friend of her friends kept telling me to TRY THIS!  TRY THAT!  Do you want some more?

I had tried them, and had said quietly I did not desire any more, and she kept pushing stuff on me to the point I was feeling offended.  I kept saying "No Thank You." and she kept pushing.

My wife told me later that is common in France, while where I'm from, it is highly offensive.  I finally stood up and moved a few feet to a different chair which my wife told me offended her (the lady).  Using the term mildly.

Champagne is another thing my wife LOVES.  I can drink it of course, it just doesn't do much for me.  I've had the Grande Dame a few times, Crystal, Dom, whatever, it's OK.  Folks rave about it I think because after spending $300+ for a bottle of wine they feel a need to.

I kinda figure "ethnic" means something from a different ethnicity, if that means anything.

I had food at an Ethiopian place in Georgetown once that was really good, but one time experience.  Ethiopia seems to be an interesting country but my friend says "Not ready for American tourists."
