I don't know anyone who actually carries on their person, even though it's legal here. I know some keep them in their cars (I do, when I'm out. Back in the house when I get home).

I hang out with mostly conservatives, and we tend to like our guns, but even my favorite liberal has a 44 Magnum! THAT is a lot of gun.

It's a two-hander for me. My wife can't shoot it. Too much power.

So you're handling a gun every time you leave the house?
That's mind-blowing.

I'm in a different bubble of people.

Is handling a gun somehow weird?

On the daily?
Might be why the gun owner & their family is more statistically at risk than any potential threats are.

Someone reasonably trained and experienced with handling a firearm is at minimal risk of having it discharge inadvertently.  The more often one handles it properly, the more like one it to handle it safely.  Good habits and all.  Inadvertent discharge are very rare.  Perhaps the most common mistake is ejecting the magazine and forgetting there can be a round in the chamber, but a simple habit of checking that means it becomes very unlikely.

Most folks who carry, I suspect, leave the firearm in a safe with the magazine out.  Then many would replace the magazine and put the firearm in a holster without charging it.  The risk of an inadvertent discharge then is effectively zero.  Some do carry loaded, as ine "one in the chamber", police officers do.  This does increase the risk somewhat.

I think most mistaken firearm discharges are mistaken identity.  Someone comes in late and a groggy gun owner doesn't realize who it is, but I'm guessing.  Then there are hunting accidents which also are pretty rare fortunately.  It doesn't take much training to obtain a deer permit, as in any.  So, someone may be hunting deer with a high powered rifle and see something moving and not realize it's either a really huge deer or a horse.

I've known a few people who won't leave the house without their handgun.  I didn't consider any of them weird or dangerous otherwise.  I've carried a few times, I had a CCL in Ohio, but the things are heavy and bulky, and I never have needed one, so you figure it's pointless, which it is, until you need one.

The symphony here has metal detectors one must pass through, they seem to be tuned not to detect much, I'd guess they would pick up a Glock.  They don't register phones or my wife's hips.  Maybe they are for show.  "For show".  Ha.

a very high percentage of folks in my bubble have firearms
not in their car or on their person but in their home

My wife has never fired a weapon.  I have offered to take her to a range, and she is willing, but we haven't gone.  Yet.

Years ago, I would have one in my car if I were traveling somewhere.  I think maybe that is when one might plausibly find need.

You never know about need. That's the point of having it with you.

My carry pistol is a S&W Bodyguard 380 auto.

I don't feel the need to carry around here.  Obviously that could suddenly change and I'd be without.  A person generally views various risks based on past experiences and perhaps news items.

I guess I could carry a lot of things, a heart defib machine, sun glasses, my passport, ...  to avoid perceived risks of something.  I often go out with just my keys.
