The PAC was never going to pluck teams from the B12 because the B12 contracts were better, because B12 ratings were better.  Nobody watched PAC football.  Nobody cared about it. This is what I explained to PiratesRoost repeatedly from 2009 through about 2019 and he could never understand it.

There's a reason it was the PAC that folded, and not the B12.
Here I am, thinking it was geography - a lack of viable expansion candidates west of the rockies.

No, just a lack of expansion candidates that would actually bring value to the conference, that wanted to join.

Geography obviously doesn't matter when it comes to money.  USC is in the B1G now, that alone should tell you how important geography is.

Craig James called that Wisconsin team the worst to ever play in the Rose Bowl.

And then they won it.
How does that exit someone's mouth when the team they faced was worse?!?  Wisconsin had the #1 scoring defense in the country.  They're automatically better than 'worst ever' lol.

There had been unranked teams to play in the RB, too.
CTE?

Stanford and Cal are in the Atlantic Coast Conference. That's how important geography is.

Having 18 teams from all over the country in the Big Ten should tell you how important counting is, though :57:

Sure, but that was a HUGE surprise and a recent development.  The PAC couldn't regionally expand after adding Utah and CU.  No other schools out that way had anywhere near the academics or overall athletics dept to feasibly join (BYU's Sunday issue notwithstanding).

Even Utah and CU were 'meh' additions, money and success-wise.  The PAC-10 was a happy conference - a perfect puddle in it's depression in the pavement.  It's where the sport should have remained forever.  10 teams, everyone plays everyone, etc.  It got too comfortable.  SEC expands.  Does nothing.  B1G expands.  Does nothing.  ACC expands.  Does nothing.

If there had been big-boy schools west of the rockies, I believe they would have added them somewhere along there, between the early 90s and mid-2000s.  But Boise is apparently a high school academically with a college football team.
Even adding the Arizona schools wasn't a big plus.  Both of them combined for only 2 RB trips in almost 50 years, lol.  If they added value, they would have acquired hardware.

Yep. And with their TV contracts, they were in NO position to poach anyone further East from the P5... Whereas with the B1G's TV contract, they were in perfect position to poach West Coast P5 teams.

Right.  So it wasn't geography.  It was a lack of drawing power from the PAC.

If there'd been 10 bluebloods in the state of Texas then the SWC would never have folded.  But that's not reality.

lack of drawing power because of lack of interest and lack of TV ratings therefore, lack of money

USC being the only blueblood and they don't draw TV viewers like the other bluebloods

folks in the eastern time zone don't stay up to watch that content - folks in the western time zone don't watch much either

The supermarket wines sommeliers secretly love:
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Catena Classic Malbec
Subject to Change “Blanc Space” Sauvignon Blanc
Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi-Dry Reisling
Dr. Konstantin Frank Separavi
Pieropan Soave Classico
Inama Soave Classico
Penedès Blanc Selecció, Huguet de Can Feixes 2023
Cantina Pra Otto Soave Classico
Mavasia from Northern Italy
Malvasia from Slovenia
Untermoserhof Schiava
Mac Forbes Pinot Noir
William Downie Pinot Noir
Wine from Picpoul de Pinet

Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a supermarket wine secretly beloved by sommeliers.

“My choice of supermarket wine is Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc, partially for the nostalgia factor. It was the first wine I remember loving when working summers at a restaurant in Newport, R.I. I also lived in Sydney, Australia, for a year and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was plentiful, so it takes me back to that great time of my life. This brand is quintessentially New Zealand: pronounced passion fruit and grapefruit flavors, with zippy acidity that is super refreshing on a hot summer day.” —Emily Mendyka, owner, Vino Venue, Dunwoody, Ga.

USC might be the blueblood, but Oregon is the one that has an obnoxious number of fans all over the west.

That is by far the worst fanbase I've ever experienced. Insufferable arrogance.
