not a big deal... once the bean was added, it just wasn't chili any longer
So what is chili w/ beans actually called?  Does it have a name?

Is Florida really Dixieland though?

North of I-4 (Orlando to Tampa) is Dixieland, except for Gainesville, Jacksonville, and the Atlantic beaches.  There are splotches of it in the rural areas south of I-4, but those are sort of their own species, more akin to some cajuns in Louisiana.  More so than to traditional southerners.

It shouldn't be at the top in my opinion. Marathon, Islamorada, and Largo are my keys of choice.

The first two are Old Florida. Largo is not quite that but has a cool vibe and lots to do.
Marathon?  Stop.

The western half of Key West is unique and worthwhile.  Better than anything Marathon has.  Islamorada is for fishing and boat storage.
Key West is probably like how Austin once was - quirky and unpolished.  Chickens roaming around, 6-toed cats, drag queens, and more.  It's more family-friendly now, I'm sure.  But at least it's unique.  The eastern half is just like anywhere else.  It's like Marathon.

I think the die-hards call it bean soup.

South of I-4 and along US Route 27 is starting to get filled in by retirees.

Goind around Lake O and North of the I-4 corridor (N of Ocala) is where I see things start to change a whole lot.

Marathon has a lot to do if you like being on the water. Different strokes.

I would not call Key West family-friendly by any stretch.

If they don't like putting beans in chili, imagine the outcry if they found out that a lot of Louisianans like myself put it over rice and still call it chili.

They might start shooting.

Chili over rice is weird but it's not necessarily wrong.  The flavorful chile-based meat stew is the chili.  Anything else could be a base, or a topping.  In Texico people eat it over all sorts of things.  Fritos, cornbread, saltines.  I wouldn't personally ever want to eat chili over rice, but I'm not gonna fault a guy for doing so.

One of my older brother's wife use to go down to the beach there in '69 and see Lynyrd Skynyrd play. They met there when he was stationed in Jacksonville

Putting Fritos in chili is probably the second most popular way to eat it in Louisiana, if I had to guess.  People will usually have Fritos out when they make chili, giving whoever they're serving the option to put the Fritos in.  What's weird is that when they put the Fritos on top of the chili, it's still called chili, or chili with Fritos.  If they put Fritos in a bowl first and then put the chili on top of the Fritos, they call it Frito pie.

I took 27 down to Marathon, actually, back in college.  It's a cool drive.

I like putting chili on rice, just makes it heartier.  More filling.  I'll do that with beef stew, too.

Yeah I only make Frito pie.  People who put Fritos on top are freaks and should be shunned.

But the most common for me, and my favorite way, is to make cornbread, cut a piece, put it in the bottom of the bowl.  Spoon the chili over that base.  Then add raw onions and jalapenos to the top.  Finally, mix it all up a little bit with a spoon.

Same.  I'd wager that amongst Louisianans, beef stew without rice is probably very uncommon.  Almost anything with even a remotely soupy makeup is going over rice.
