Yeah sounds like you were driving a defective car, not a beater.

If you had a beater, you knew a guy.

Realized that when I replace my car, I'm going to be able to do something that I've never been able to financially do before.

Write a check and buy it outright instead of taking a loan.

I've always dreamed of being able to do that.

Bought my last Ram and then my previous sedan that way.  The Ram was used, but nevertheless, I paid cash for it.

I'm paying notes for the next five years on the truck I just bought, because it's not possible for me to purchase a vehicle outright.

As mentioned elsewhere, I'm a rare case who's gone backwards in my career.  By the time I retire I should be pulling down minimum wage.

Well the good news for you is that by that time, minimum wage will probably be $50/hour.

I will have my mechanic disable them on both cars at their next service if this happens. It's always the first button I push upon starting.

I don't advise paying cash for anything if you can borrow the money almost for free.

Especially if you can deduct the interest.

Can you borrow money on a car loan for almost free right now, though?

Honest question, because I have no idea what car loan rates are, I haven't had a car payment in quite a while.  But it seems to me rates are up lately?

I was raised to do that. But always bought modest cars.

Insurance needs can complicate that math a bit, depending on the price of a car.
