Just saw these.

So, potentially, brad's son and utee's daughter could both go to A&M, meet, fall in love, get married, and then the guys here would have some Engineering Uber-nerd grandkids.

......who would undoubtedly grow up Aggie fans.  Hmm.

The world needs uber nerd engineers, but I don't want the Aggies getting too powerful.
Well, half the way has been cleared, since A&M does rolling admissions...

...and my son just got accepted to Texas A&M!!!!

Congrats, my daughter is in as well.  Now we have to wait to hear from the GOOD schools she applied to... :)

Yesterday I took a bike ride in the forest, then on the coast. It was spectacular. Nature therapy is a thing. In the forest, I did a pretty big climb that took about an hour. Could have come back in about 10-15 minutes, but decided to enjoy the scenery instead. Took me almost as long going down as up. It was amazing. Made me very happy.

Great photos.  Cali is such a beautiful state.  Hard to take a bad pic!

Congrats to him!  Does he have a preference among the schools you previously mentioned?

His top three are Cal, Michigan, and Purdue.

Texas A&M, Illinois, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech are all in that tier just below. I'm not sure of his ranking below them. For the grad program rankings, A&M is something like 8th nationally for nuclear engineering though, so it's definitely a strong contender in that tier.

He's also applied to Stanford, and is planning to apply to UCLA, UCSD, and Cal Poly-SLO. I *think* based on wanting to go into nuclear with aeronautical/aerospace engineering as a fallback, they might be below the tier mentioned above due to not being as strong in nuke. However, in-state tuition might be important if he misses out on his top 3. Stanford, if he's lucky enough to get in, would probably be out of the running. They don't have nuke, and while they obviously have a strong aeronaut/space program, he wouldn't be going there unless he's getting a BOATLOAD of scholarship aid.

Yesterday I completed my sixth brew day since getting back into it this year. Made a 10 gallon batch of schwarzbier and got my 10 gallons of Marzen into kegs.

I can definitely say that after the long time away, a couple of those first brews I was still trying to remember everything and making sure the equipment worked properly (I had some issues with a clogged chiller for the first two brews). It's been getting better and better every brew day since.

Yesterday, everything went smoothly, I hit all my numbers, and generally the brew day could be described as "boring". Which is ideal; it should be drinking the beer that's exciting, not brewing it :57:

My cousin's son recently graduated from Stanford.  Did both his undergrad and master's there.  What's weird that I don't fully understand is that he enrolled at a couple classes at Cal to finish the master's degree.  But it was a Stanford degree.  Something about Cal having the only classes within the time frame he needed to graduate at a certain time to start a job he'd been offered.  I don't know if he had to apply and be accepted to Cal in that case, or if there was some weird handshake between the schools where you just enroll in the classes and transfer your credit, or what.  He lived at Cal though, for that last semester.

...and then graduated from 'Furd.

Works at Amazon now, I think.

This probably isn't relevant, since I'm not sure any of that made me happy.
