I've been using the card for travel purchases and other big-ticket items (like the TV). Paying it off immediately.

I don't tend to use it for daily expenses though.

Man I had a great weekend.

On Saturday I got 3 TVs going whilst watching football, had some friends over to watch all day long while I also smoked the pork butt and a couple of chickens, both the Horns and Ags won, and a buddy I haven't seen in a very long time stuck around and we had some Scotch and listened to an awesome Van Morrison live double LP record in the Vinyl Lounge.

Then on Sunday I got up early, got a 5-mile run in, then took the almost-16yo-boy to do some practice driving and parallel parking, before his driving test on Wednesday.  He's absolutely kicking butt on driving and parking, and afterwards I got an honest and sincere "thanks dad" and a hug.

Got home, and started to get ready for his 16th birthday party for the family.  Did some cleaning whilst watching the Italian Grand Prix, made some special 5-cheese mac n cheese as requested by my son, pulled and prepped the pork butt (which made the entire house smell amazing whilst re-heating in the oven), had about 20 people over for the party.  Served BBQ pork sliders, with house-made slaw, pinto beans made by my FIL who makes the absolute best pinto beans on the planet, the 5-cheese mac n cheese, and my kids' favorite cake that was made by my i s c & a aggie wife.

Then my MIL, who is an accomplished pianist and highly trained classical soprano, but is also suffering from some dementia and has good and bad days, went into the front room and started playing the piano for my son.  She was so joyful, it was great to see, and it's the piano that my parents gave me and it belonged to my grandmother, and they were also joyful to see it being used, which it never was at their house.

Then after most folks left, the kids and my i s c & a aggie wife decided to watch a horror movie in the living room, while my brother and brother in law stuck around, we drank some bourbon and listened to Miles Davis in the Vinyl Parlor, and then shut everything down and I was in bed by 10.

It was a good day.  And a good weekend.

Damn, that's like those social media posts single friends send from the Alps or South Pacific in September that make me feel worse about my humdrum life. Good on ya, Utee.

Ha!  Thanks man.

My buddies and I definitely have a running joke that the only useful purpose of social media is to taunt your friends with how much  better your life is, than theirs.

But kidding aside, what I loved most about the weekend is that it was completely plain and normal, no Swiss Alps, no Hawaiian beaches, not even a fancy restaurant with a killer tasting menu and wine pairing.  Just normal everyday living of life, spending time with loved ones, and celebrating a major milestone.  That's the good stuff.

It's funny because I worked my ass off this weekend but I feel great.  Got a big job done with my crew that I'm charging primo dollars for, everybody was at work by 6 AM, we got done on Sunday and got everything moved out.  Paid the crew a nice bonus, had some beautiful weather if not a little hot.  Job went good too.

Took the boy to the DMV today to take his driving test, he passed!  Now he's off on his own, cruising with a friend to search for free birthday deals at all of the local fast food eateries.

Made it back home from Nashville in great time (was at an Industry conference).    i had to make a brief board meeting appearance for a client during the drive home.   I took it from a Dollar General parking lot amongst the corn fields of Southern Indiana.   normally you'd be on camera for these appearances, board member called me out and I showed him from my phone and they all laughed.

With a storm of bad news in the media, one piece of good news. One of my best friends was the investigator that cracked this cold case (rape/attempted murder), and the scumbag pleaded guilty yesterday. Chalk one up for the good guys.

Sitting in the Dancing Bear bar in Sydney, IA

My buddy's place.   He's been here a couple years.   My first time.

Good catching up
