So I got back from San Jose yesterday (actually just flew up Weds afternoon).

I was up there for a relatively high-profile conference in my industry where I--for the first time ever--actually presented in a public forum as part of a panel. Which was cool and made me happy. Prior to walking in, I took my imposter syndrome out behind the convention center, beat the tar out of it, so I'd be ready to stand in front of a room and kill it. Which also made me happy lol. (When my presentation is publicly posted I can link it in the tech nerd thread if anyone cares...)

My wife flew up to attend since so much of what I do is non-public, so she got to see me present. Which also made me happy, as well as having her with me on a trip so it wasn't just me sitting alone in a hotel room all night.

And I was in a new blazer and shirt that made me look quite dapper... So, happy... :72:

And now, today my oldest is officially a legal adult.

We're taking him and his siblings out for sushi for dinner (his request).

He went to a Roger Dunn Golf to use the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer to get "fit" for the right golf club shaft. His second best fit was the KBS Tour Lite in stiff, which just so happened to be a stock shaft for a good (and reasonably priced DTC company). So I ordered him some Takomo 101T irons in his specs to replace the 25 year old hand-me-down-from-Dad irons that he's been playing for the last few years. Although it will be a number of weeks before those are built and shipped...

Oh, one more thing about the conference... I got to finally meet (in person) utee's SurlyHorns buddy that I work[ed] with.

When our company split he and I predictably ended up on opposite sides, so we're no longer coworkers. So he was at his company's booth, not ours lol. But it was fun to say hello in person to someone that I'd talked to through a screen extensively, who not only is in the same industry but who shares the same deranged college football fandom as us weirdos here...

Yeah he's a hoot.  Burnt Eyes and he were pretty good friends before Burny decided to go full prepper and move to a zombie apocalypse compound in an undisclosed location somewhere in the middle of Tennessee.

So you have the ability to engineer your own golf clubs, but you don't?

No, not even close. I'm an electrical engineer, not a mechanical engineer. And my decades of experience are in data storage, not in golf.

I would be useless in golf club design / manufacturing, because neither my education nor my work experience has prepared me to be useful.

I have the ability to brew my own beer. And it's good. But that doesn't mean that I have the right experience to operate a commercial brewery trying to brew 15000 bbl/year of craft beer. And I know WAY more about that than I do golf club design / manufacturing.

Yesterday was our 12th anniversary.  We walked down to the local flower shop and bought some flowers (duh) in a vase I brought had previously bought at that shop.  The owner's son was there, 9 years old, with baseball glove and tennis ball, looking bored.  So, we take the flower home and I take a couple photos and we think to walk back to show them to the nice flower lady, and I decided to take my glove and a baseball.

The flower lady is happy to have the photos, and I ask if "JD" would like to walk across the street into the park and throw some with a real baseball, the kid lights up, so off we go, my wife took some photos.  The youngster throws and catches well, we tossed for maybe 30 minutes, my wife sends photos back to the mom who of course is delighted with that.

It felt good to throw with a youngster again, been a while.  I even threw him a curve after telling him it was coming, he seemed impressed.  My curve breaks nicely but I still don't have good command of it.

Me and my son and his friend went to New Braunfels on Saturday and floated the Guadalupe River.  This is the first time we've been in several years.  The water has been too low for the last several years to float, especially with a raft like we like to do.  It wasn't the best float, and the water is still kinda low but it was relaxing and nostalgic.  Came home in the same day, made for a long day.  But it felt good.

Jeez...you post on SurlyHorns?  You brave.
Whatever happened to Shaggy Bevo?  I would get on those sites a time or two every year, after the losses were especially fun.

No, I don't post there.

Just mentioned the connection because we were chatting over a work virtual call a while back, got on the subject if football, and I realized my coworker and utee knew each other via SurlyHorns. And despite being coworkers, I'd never actually met this guy in person. (Of course we're not even coworkers now due to the company split.)

Utee can correct me if I'm wrong, because it was a long time ago.

But I believe the site owner lost control of the site in a lawsuit vs a former business partner. So they started up surlyhorns and everyone moved over there.

I didn't transition to surlyhorns. I do miss Thujone's MS paint threads, though.

Please report back on the Takomo's. They look interesting and I'm playing 20 year old Cleveland's.

Thujone is the toxic principal in absinthe or wormwood.
