Givi, my Georgian friend, assured me the country is "safe".  I didn't have any qualms about visiting Turkey, there are probably areas in both I should avoid.

But then I've been to place like Oman and Jordan and Egypt and Malaysia as well.

Had no Issue with Turkey.  Taking a bus from Alexandria to Giza (Pyramids) we had an armed guard on the bus with us.  That was interesting, but no problems.

Matt Rhule called it a “great first day” as the Huskers’ fall camp got underway Monday.

I was in Marseille a while back just walking around the public market in the old port and a squad of soldiers walked by me, all in tactical gear.  I was wondering why someone would see a need for them there, it wasn't a great feeling, I never witnessed anything askance.

I see soldiers in public in tactical gear a lot more often in Europe than here.

Well my soon to be 16yo son got a new car from his grandparents on Saturday.  He loves it and is happy, and that makes me happy!

A new car?  What happened with the used Mustang?  Did they get him a Corvette?  A Porsche?  A Cadillac CTS-V Blackwing?

It's a new Mustang.  2025.  His older sister who only got a used Mustang (2 years old at the time) had some words to say about that.  I told her to stuff it. :)

(She wasn't really serious, she loves her car)

My inlaws are very generous.

Of course I'm the one stuck paying the insurance.  But this is the "happy" thread so we're not going to talk about that...

Ya ,hope they don't nickel/dime you to death with things like whole light assembly replacements instead of just switching bulbs out. A lot of corporate cocks are doing scams just like that

V-6?  Or whatever they put under the hoods these days.  Surely it's not a 5.0L.

Inline 4 turbo.  It's not exactly slow, but it's not the 5L V8 either.

Well the good news about a brand new car, is that it has a warranty.  Of course, somehow, some way, stuff always seems to break the day after the warranty expires...

We went to Costco, which generally is a decent experience, and was.  My wife wanted to stop at Soma, so I let her out and stayed in the car with the engine running.

The engine would run maybe 30 seconds and cut off, then 30 seconds on battery, then 30 on engine.  I had just filled up, and my mpg meter said 3.6 mpg, which is the lowest I've seen.  I was watching the battery recharge bar shrink and then climb.  Made me kind of curiously happy in a way, and I was cool.
