I need to replace a sliding door handle.  I have the pieces, looked over the instructions, might do it tomorrow.

I went swimming, again, always a good feeling I think.  I have not had a drink since Friday when I pretty much overdid it.

Ever since we bought our house with a pool, 13 years ago, my i s c & a aggie wife has wanted to set up our outdoor movie projector and watch Jaws whilst floating in the pool.  We finally did that a couple of weeks ago.  It was a lot of fun.

I hadn't seen the movie in many years.  It's dated, as you'd expect, but it's still pretty good.  Our kids had never seen it before and enjoyed it.
I actually think it's less dated than most movies from that era.  Hell, I think it's less dated that the early 00s CGI movies.  They knew their limitations, and how to scare you without showing you anything.  It's why Jurassic Park remains easily the best of those, aside from all of the other reasons.  We hit a period where we leaned way too hard into CGI, when it was extremely bad.  Showing these movies to kids, they laugh at the Star Wars prequels, or the LOTR movies.  They look goofy.  I think Jaws very much holds up

I watched a couple episodes of the "new" Old Star Trek and was musing about the special effects.  The original show was pretty bad of course, but at the time ...

Now it's pretty much 75% special effects, maybe 5% plot and dialog and acting, and 20% fluff.  Not a fan.

I do enjoy reading.  I don't usually "nap" in the PM, but on occasion I find myself readi....zzzzzzzzzzz.  It's not a bad thing.  My wife is off to the hair dresser where she spends a fair bit of money on her hair, which is OK with me I guess.  I go to Great Clips and leave large tips.  I think they charge $18 for seniors now, and they do a fine job in my opinion, for some reason I'm not very vain about my appearance, which is a good thing as there is little about which to be vain.

well, it wasn't today but, last Sunday made me happy

my brother and I took the red sporty car to our mom's side family reunion about 60 miles from home.
On a very familiar 2-lane blacktop just north of where we grew up I ran the vette up to 150mph.
Brother wasn't scared but he was a little nervous.

then later at the reunion, one of the cousins asked how fast I'd had it up too.  I just looked at my brother and said, "Why don't you tell him?"

Hah!

great day with family - we had been having these reunions every 5 years.  Wed decided to have the next one 3 years from now.  Folks getting older and might not make it 5 years.

I idly wonder if some cop was sitting with radar and a car goes by at 150 if he attempts to chase him down, and whether the driver stays with it or see the lights and pulls over.

sitting with radar there's gonna be a chase, unless it's too close to lunch time or end of shift

now popping over the top of the hill and meeting a cop going the other way........ might just keep going
(not that this has ever happened to me)

I went to the pool, as is my wont, nobody else there, as usual.  We have maybe 250 residents, a few very young kids, none 6-17 to my knowledge, a fair number of older folks, but during the week hardly anyone uses the pool.  Our maintenance guy does a good job taking care of it, it's salt water, there is a shower on the deck, it's a nice thing for me to have, I get some low impact aerobic exercise without running and sweating like crazy, I am thirsty when I get back.

I do some work in the gym before the pool, I recently moved my weights up a notch, which is good I think.

So, I'm pretty content, but hungry.

Our Saturday tradition ( outside the fall when I do other things):

I make eggs sunnyside over toast for my wife (and me).  Eggs are good for breakfast I was told.

We walk to the market a block away, it's only on Saturdays, in the park, a lot of good stuff this time of year.  I got some really good French bread and cheese.  Then we stopped at the local flower shop to chat with the nice lady there, I have her a soft baseball for her five year old but she told me she was keeping it for herself!  I have another around here.  My wife bought another vase.

The lady has two boys,  the old one plays baseball all the time, travel ball I guess.  They have a 12 year old golden and just got a puppy who they learned is blind but adorable.  And she's running a flower business.  She's super nice.

At one, we're having a couple over from down the hall, the lady is pregnant, her husband is from Georgia (the other one), both are professors of economics I think at GaState.  I'm fixing cucumber sandwiches, but myself.  My wife is upstairs arranging stuff that is fine the way it is, whatever.

Dinner plans at some allegedly French restaurant about 4 miles away.

My watch claims it's 87°F outside but it feels pretty bad right now in the sun.  Thank you Mr. Carrier.

Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) still holds up well, and remains hilarious.

I'll be happy today when I get the Swtichgrasses under control around my property.

I'm happy to be home.  Hit the road early Tuesday morning.
Brother will be here until Monday morning

I just found out that SW Florida got its first Proton Therapy Center - opened this year. I thought we were going to have to go across the state, or up to Chicago.

This makes me happy.

Got a last minute invite to a concert with some big names. Figured “if I don’t see these folks now, they might not give me another chance.”
