BTW the one thing I absolutely abhor in my industry is the use of buzzwords--to make one sound smart.

The thing with buzzwords is that they usually are referencing something very real, and something very important. And if you understand the thing they're referencing and can explain it, I've got no problem with anyone using them.

My issue is those who DON'T understand them, using them to sound smarter than they actually are. That's pretention.

It's only being cocky if you can't back it up.

The use of the word was perfectly placed in getting across the specific idea I wanted to convey. So I wasn't just trying to "sound" smart... I am smart ;-)

Oh, I wasn't denigrating you.  I was applauding you.

It's a plus on my people-meter for those who use big words correctly.  I award extra credit if others don't know what the word means, you know they don't know what it means, and you use it anyway.

I might not be pretentious, but I am a dick.

I'm not pretentious but I possess an extensive vocabulary.

I just tend to dumb it down for all of you message board yahoos and jackwagons.

As I've gotten older, it started working one-way.  I know a ton of expensive words when I hear/read them, but they don't readily spring to mind in conversation like they used to.

Interestingly, to me, more come to mind when I'm typing as opposed to speaking.  Unless I'm speaking in front of a crowd, in which case something happens and every big word I've ever known will find a way out of my mouth.  Adrenaline, maybe.  Talk about pretentious.

I found myself reminiscing about old CFB and how offseason build and break for reasons that surprise and make the sport good.

Mrs. DeT's employer was bought out six months ago and yesterday was the first time the new company evaluated for raises.  She got a 9% raise :86:  That is quite a pleasant surprise.

We started a new habit this week, we have my wife's juice thing for breakfast and then go to the pool.  In this heat, running is kind of out for me.  I do some work in the gym and then more in the pool, the water now is getting a bit on the warm side.

We have left over refrigerator soup for lunch.  It was good last night.

Every summer the two movies we have to watch are Jaws and Sandlot.  I love both movies, but I have no interest in watching them in February.  Watching Jaws last night made everything ok

A lot of good things came from 1975.

Jaws is one of the best movies ever made in my opinion. As a kid at any public pool you always had that music in your head and the funny feeling in your legs swimming in the deep end. Even though it defies all logic a giant shark swimming in a freshwater pool it still gave us anxiety.

well, you live in Texas.  Y'all ruin everything.  No one would want to move there.
