Man I had a great weekend.
On Saturday I got 3 TVs going whilst watching football, had some friends over to watch all day long while I also smoked the pork butt and a couple of chickens, both the Horns and Ags won, and a buddy I haven't seen in a very long time stuck around and we had some Scotch and listened to an awesome Van Morrison live double LP record in the Vinyl Lounge.
Then on Sunday I got up early, got a 5-mile run in, then took the almost-16yo-boy to do some practice driving and parallel parking, before his driving test on Wednesday. He's absolutely kicking butt on driving and parking, and afterwards I got an honest and sincere "thanks dad" and a hug.
Got home, and started to get ready for his 16th birthday party for the family. Did some cleaning whilst watching the Italian Grand Prix, made some special 5-cheese mac n cheese as requested by my son, pulled and prepped the pork butt (which made the entire house smell amazing whilst re-heating in the oven), had about 20 people over for the party. Served BBQ pork sliders, with house-made slaw, pinto beans made by my FIL who makes the absolute best pinto beans on the planet, the 5-cheese mac n cheese, and my kids' favorite cake that was made by my i s c & a aggie wife.
Then my MIL, who is an accomplished pianist and highly trained classical soprano, but is also suffering from some dementia and has good and bad days, went into the front room and started playing the piano for my son. She was so joyful, it was great to see, and it's the piano that my parents gave me and it belonged to my grandmother, and they were also joyful to see it being used, which it never was at their house.
Then after most folks left, the kids and my i s c & a aggie wife decided to watch a horror movie in the living room, while my brother and brother in law stuck around, we drank some bourbon and listened to Miles Davis in the Vinyl Parlor, and then shut everything down and I was in bed by 10.
It was a good day. And a good weekend.
