THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

Quasi-War between the US and France Unofficially Begins (1798)
France was a major US ally during the American Revolutionary War, but relations between the two countries soured in the wake of the French Revolution and the Jay Treaty between the US and Britain. The US refused to pay debts to the new French Republic, while the Jay Treaty granted the US trading privileges with Britain. The French Navy began seizing American trading ships, and the Quasi-War, also known as the Pirate Wars, resulted, lasting from 1798 to 1800.

46 years ago today on 7th July 1980, Led Zeppelin's John Bonham, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones and played their final gig together at Berlin's Eissporthalle an der Jafféstraße, the closing date of their relatively intimate Tour Over Europe 1980 trek.
The set closed with 'Whole Lotta Love', John Bonham's last-ever song with the band prior to his death on 25th September 1980 aged just 32.
Led Zeppelin split up following John's death and cancelled their planned North American tour.

Never noticed until just recently how similar the Chilean flag and the Texas flag are.

I looked it up and apparently it's coincidental, there's no story behind it or copying intended.  Still struck me though, and apparently I'm not the only one, as I found an article about a Texas politician encouraging Texans not to incorrectly post Chile's flag as an emoji when they mean to post the Texas flag emoji.

I've actually known this for pretty much my entire life, and there's a specific reason why.

Back many decades ago, Texas had laws against using the state flag or any images thereof in advertising and commercial marketing.  It might still be a law, I don't know, but back then I know for sure it was true.  Because on our billboards that we had, advertising our BBQ restaurant, my dad wanted to use an image of the Texas state flag, and some slogans or whatever, extolling the virtues of our delicious BBQ restaurant.  But the sign company wouldn't do it, citing the state law.

So instead my dad decided to use the Chilean national flag.

Most people never noticed, or at least never commented, but every now and then a customer would come up and say something like, "Did you know you're actually using the Chilean flag????"  And then my folks would explain why.

According to the intergoogles they like to grill sausages, grill large-roast-type cuts of beef slowly over open coals, and cook whole lamb on spits over an open wood fire.
