The pizza drama here revolves around Ohio Valley style pizza, where crust and sauce is cooked and then topped with cold cheese and pepperoni. It's different, though can be quite tasty. One opened in my suburb, then closed despite doing good business because the franchisee said the original family owners was crazy. The family then reopened recently in the same spot, and recently went thermonuclear on a women asking about allergens in the sauce, calling her a "loser" and "probably a Biden voter." Good customer relations.

We have an office in Wheeling, and even among people from Wheeling, DiCarlo's (which I think originated it) is divisive.  Granted any outsider criticism is met with staunch opposition.  I think it's fine, and apparently I ate at "the bad one".  It certainly wouldn't be my go to, but it's far better than Chicago, which should stick to hot dogs

Cold cheese and pepperoni on top of a sauce-infused pre-baked crust, is better than Chicago deep-dish pizza?

That take is

I had my first pizza ever when I was 15 or 16.  It was pepperoni, probably at Pizza Inn or equivalent.  I thought it was very spicy.

I don't think I had another until I went off to college, and then, not liking beer at all, I discovered beer was pretty good with pizza.

I never had "Mexican" food until I went to college, didn't like it.  My first French restaurant was in grad school.
I'm glad my parents weren't like yours :57:

My Mom was a good cook, my Dad however would only eat a rather small group of food items, certainly no pizza, no spaghetti, nothing remotely "ethnic".  If we dined out, it would be at some catfish place, S&S cafeteria.  or maybe a Sizzlin'.  I can dimly recall going out after church in Augusta to some "American" style place, it was all we had.

My mom wanted to cook more varied meals, but basically couldn't.  My dad was quite unpleasant when he didn't get his way.

There is a Thai restaurant near us here that claims to be the first Thai restaurant in Atlanta, started in 1977.  It's hard to imagine really.   We have about every style of restauyrant in walking distance here, except FRENCH!!!:73::91::03:

I found it to be good, but more pizza adjacent than actual pizza. Like a pizza sub or something. It delivers the taste of pizza, it's pretty good, but if I am wanting to order a pizza I wouldn't consider it.

Oh it's not his parents' fault-- pizza, Mexican, and French food weren't invented until CD was in his high school and college years...

There still is a cafeteria in the town in which I grew up (near) that is half decent.  The concept overall seems to have about disappeared.

Maybe Golden Corral ended them?  Ugh.
