Was seeing some content on the 80’s movie “The Breakfast Club”. This movie, I guess, was really popular in the 80’s. Or at least, if you believe all the hype propagated about it over the years. The weird thing is, neither me or any of my friends ever liked it. And we watched a lot of movies at the time. In fact, even though I’ve seen this movie many times, I admit I’ve never really watched it all the way thru. I’ve seen the beginning, the middle, and the end. I just find it so boring. I really don’t know how it had such an effect on pop culture that it “resonates “ 40+ years later. Or maybe it doesn’t.

I think maybe it had a lot of up-and-comers in the cast, and it certainly captured some of the essence of that little slice of time.

I’m assuming we are heavy Gen X in here, am I the only one who just never thought it was that good?

I was just out of HS (class of 1985, graduated 1984) when it came out so it was relatable to me for sure. I really enjoyed it.

I was in junior high, almost high school, and found it highly relatable.  I enjoyed it both then and now.

And my teenagers have watched it and really liked it, too.  They felt it was still pretty relevant even decades later.

Agree, and Tears for Fears is nowhere to be found on the Breakfast Club soundtrack.

I would’ve been around 9-10 when it came out, so well outside of being a teenager. By the time I was a teenager, all of the actors had gone on to do bigger things. It just felt kinda dated to me, even in the early 90’s.

Anyways, I vaguely remember certain things about it. 4-5 kids get into some kind of trouble. A nerd, a jock, an introvert, a delinquent. And a popular girl. They have to spend an entire Saturday in detention at their school. The principal is a dick. They start off aloof, then bond. There’s a weird scene where the delinquent is climbing through the ceiling. They run around the school while the principal is taking a dump, and do a little dance number. The day ends, the parents pick them up, and their little brief time together is over.

Boring.

Much like Gigem, I think I'd seen the majority of it in chinks throughout the years. I watched it in one sitting for the first time maybe a month ago.

I appreciate the message and intent of the movie. But I think they botched the ending. All in all, a good movie.

I've also never seen the whole thing at once, while having seen the whole thing in chunks several times over.

It's okay, but obviously by my watch pattern, it doesn't hold my attention enough to sit through it.

We did our usual LotR Christmas Viewing over the holiday, although this year was the abbreviated (theatrical release) version because it's all we own on DVD and Prime Video didn't have the extended editions this year.

This year's particular Christmas Viewings were Die Hard, Home Alone, and A Christmas Carol (Disney's computer animated version with Jim Carey).  The Polar Express was on deck but we didn't have the time.  Maybe next year.  Or, this year, as the case may be.

I think this was the first time I watched Die Hard all the way through from beginning to end, oddly enough.  Kind of like The Breakfast Club, I've seen it in chunks multiple times over, and often seen most of the movie, but I'm not sure I saw it end-to-end until now.

I hadn't seen Home Alone in decades.  I found I liked it more now than I did when I was young.  John Candy wasn't in the movie as much as I thought I remembered, but he steals the show in his own way and really adds nice touch.

A cultural phenomenon that is definitely overrated, but seems to get more popular with age.

This reads really funny to me.  You could say something like this and it would sound exactly the same:

"Was seeing some content on the 60's band "The Beatles."  This band, I guess, was really popular in the 60's."
