the images that appear at the top of the main board are getting kinda... stale... used... has been.

I think there are a few over 80 of the in the sites 'inventory'.  it randomly plops them up there.  or, is supposed to.  it's a curiosity that computers seemingly doing 'random', if left to their own devices, will begin a decided pattern after a while... and then there is this thing called 'caching' which most browsers do to appear faster- so... there is a really good chance that you, like me, see the same perhaps 20 images over and over.

i thought i'd do something different and offer up opportunity for you guys to submit images to go up there?

if you want to play along, simply upload images here in this thread, or link to it.  I would appreciate file types .jpg and none else, and in the size range of 800~950px wide by 425~500px high...

anyone want to play along?  it doesn't have to be specific to games- or it could be images of games you were at (and took the pic)... or anything that fits the concept of theme.

thanks in advance for anyone who contributes!

Rutgers @ Iowa, 9/7/2019 by Mark Roeder, on FlickrHow do you want us to submit photos? I think this one is cool because the people on the left are in homeostasis.

very cool pic!!!

well, either use the attachment thingy on the 'full' post page, or, if they're already on the interweb somewhere just use the little button for images and post them... basically, anything but a image host such as flickr... heheheheheeee!!  they make it hard for me to collect.

Here is another, sort of cool perspective, but not sure how good it would be as a banner photo. I think this is the new disabled persons seating arrangement in the new north end zone seating.

But, at least if you are a  member, not sure for non-members, there is a download button. If you want me to email, I would have to download them from flickr, as those are my nonpersonal keeper photos, and then attach to a personal message and send to you. Tell me your preference.

nah, i figured out how to snag them... they'll be in rotation in a few minutes... thanks!!!  that last one is great... makes the place seem more driven by users than just flopping out images by major outlets, ya know?  that is precisely what i'm trying to do!

Okay, then, did you get this one. Not exactly a great action shot. But a clear one.

i've added from 85.jpg to 89.jpg tonight... what i think i'll do is go up to 99, and hopefully with a lot of contributions here, and then start overwriting 1.jpg, 2.jpg, ect... in effect 'retiring' them...

make sense?

responded, Sir...

to share with others:

the script that handles that is something a lot of designers have approached me wanting to know how... and then they're disappointed to learn it's little but a trick.

they are all background images... they're all shoved in the same directory and instead of using names they are numbers... they MUST by in .jpg format and they MUST be sequential (1-whatever number are there).

the script then offers a number between 1 and 89 (as it is now) and then adds .jpg after it.  that simple.  it's REALLY lightweight and it is built for speed, literally.  they should load really fast and a LOT faster if they were hard scripted there....

do you guys recall the first iteration of this site? it was a mess... i apologize for that... it is built for performance, now, (instead of gadgets) and it seems to be working out a lot better than that first couple series... man, those were so bad i'm surprised most of y'all didn't find somewhere else to go!!!

so... in explanation a little better: there are now 89 images in that folder... 1.jpg to 89.jpg... i'd like to have 1.jpg-99.jpg, and then if there are more offered up by y'all, i'll start overwriting the old ones... the existing 1.jpg will still be named 1.jpg, but it will be a different image... does that clarify?

This probably wouldn't work to add, then, but I'll put it here, as it is kind of cool to old history buffs. The banners don't allow for attribution.
