OT - Grumpy Old Man Thread

That's a nice place.

I've worked on so many around there. Cantigny, Arrowhead, Klein Creek, Seven Bridges, to name a few.

Arrowhead was pretty much my main club. I've never played Cantigny... Despite it being in Winfield right in between where I grew up (Wheaton) and where my parents moved my senior year (West Chicago). 

But as a kid, I *loved* going to play on the tanks.

West Chicago? Over there I did some work on St. Andrews. Not a bad place.

I also did some really nice subdivisions in that town. Prairie Meadows was one of my crown jewels for conservation, wetland design, floodplain, etc. It won several awards.

Yeah, we were just off (w/in 2 blocks) of the intersection of 59 and Geneva Rd. 

House was built in 1957, so although I know you're a Grumpy Old Man, I don't think you're Old enough to have worked on that tract.

I'm hoping for 20 more years

It's why it's called a job and/or work.  Not a vacation or a sport or a hobby. Etc.

The next evolution seems to be a vocal chunk of Generation Z not only not valuing work but not wanting to work at all. Again, in defense of Gen Z, they’ve woken up much earlier than Millennials have to the diminishing ROI of a college education that loads students with six-figures of debt. And I can’t blame Gen Z for not looking forward to working a growing number of salary jobs that won't pay enough for a house or reap the financial freedoms enjoyed by earlier generations. As a result, Gen Z appears in an early sort of mid-life crisis, they are clearly airing their frustration en masse across their social feeds, and already sounding like grumpy old men:

I dropped out of UNL because of the fear of too much student loan debt.
and if my job wasn't paying enough to provide a financial future I cared for, I could simply find a better (sometimes tougher) job or prepare myself for a better job.

I was pretty damned sure a mid-life crisis or airing my frustration wasn't going to solve the problem

I started out majoring in philosophy, but realized I couldn't DO anything with that, even though I loved it.
I also did not do a 5th-year masters degree to avoid getting into any debt, as I'd gotten my BA free paid and clear. 

Those were choices I made.  Not saying they were right, but despite what many here might think, I'm a pretty prudent fella.
