I've only smoked weed, but I've never purchased it.
Never tried anything stronger.  I like my mind where it is.

I think I would try a psychedelic to see where my mind would go, but I won't seek it out enough to actually do it.

Because of this post, I made myself a Cuban Old Fashioned last night--or as close as I could get to one given what I had in my liquor cabinet, so Cointreau instead of orange curacao, and I decided to use coffee and orange bitters, instead of angostura (but I typically use coffee bitters in my old fashioneds). Not gonna lie, it was pretty tasty, and one of the better uses of the Kraken rum that I've had for a long time.

The Stag's Leap district is probably my favorite wine district in the US.  Their stuff is consistently top tier, usually in $$$ as well.

Yeah, my guess is most fraternities have illegal drugs floating about, maybe this one was operating a "ring", e.g., buying bulk and selling?

Drinking remains at record low in Gallup’s 2026 Consumption Habits survey

The survey found that 54% of U.S. adults ages 18 and over drink alcohol, matching the all-time low set in last year’s poll, which was the lowest since 1939. The share of drinkers began to fall sharply after 2022, when it was 67%.

Among those who do drink, a record-low 13% said they sometimes drink too much, suggesting even drinkers have moderated their intake. Gallup said the “decline in drinking since 2023 is evident across most demographic groups,” but noted drinking habits have hardly changed among Democrats.

Gallup’s July poll found that the share of Republicans and independents who reported drinking has fallen more than 10% since 2023, while Democrats reported just a 1% decrease. The numbers show 63% of Democrats drink in 2026, compared with 53% of Republicans and 50% of independents.

Recent studies also indicate some Americans may be turning to another substance to replace drinking, with an estimated 21.4 million Americans using marijuana on a daily or near-daily basis in 2025, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Researchers said it’s the first time daily cannabis use exceeds both daily drinking and smoking.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label is the pinnacle expression from this popular blended scotch brand produced by drinks company Diageo. Over the years, various special editions of Blue Label have been released, as master blender Dr. Emma Walker tweaks the blend and selects special whiskies from the many casks at her disposal. The latest special release is called Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend, a new expression that is meant to celebrate “India’s festive season,” and was inspired by the culture and flavors of that country.

Diageo owns 31 whisky distilleries across Scotland, most of which produce malt whisky with a few grain distilleries in the mix as well. That means there are more than ten million casks of aging whisky across the portfolio to choose from, and the Johnnie Walker lineup is produced by blending together malt and grain whiskies from many of these distilleries. Blue Label, however, is expensive and more limited for a reason—according to the brand, just one in 10,000 casks will make it into a bottle. For certain editions, that means whisky from ghost distilleries, or distilleries that closed their doors decades ago, is added to the blend.

According to Walker, this new blend was designed to be a whisky that would complement Indian cuisine. “I was captivated by the artistry of Indian cuisine, the way chefs balance bold spice with harmony, elegance and depth,” she said in a statement. “That sense of balance became my inspiration for this special Blue Label blend. By layering aromatic notes of cardamom, clove, and cinnamon with smooth sweetness and our signature depth of flavor, we’ve created a whisky that complements the richness of India’s festive table while remaining unmistakably Johnnie Walker Blue Label.” As far as specific whiskies that were used in the blend, this new release includes whiskies from Port Dundas (for “sweet depth”), Clynelish (tropical brightness and a silky mouthfeel”), Blair Athol (“warm spice”), and Talisker (“gentle maritime smoke”).

I often notice on TV and movies how somebody will pour themselves a drink.  Hard liquor. Usually from some unlabeled glass container, amber color. They then will fill their cup 1/2 or whatever. Then just casually take sips, or more. Meanwhile, I pour myself a very small amount, and despite my best attempts, I can’t drink it without making a face, or even coughing afterwards.

Even mixed drinks don’t go down smoothly.

How about you?
