OAM game thread
« on: August 04, 2026, 01:16:39 AM »
I didn't want to take over the AI thread, so if anyone cares to check out updates and such, I'll post them here.

While I could colorize old-timey players with only black-and-white photos from the past, I could also do the opposite and make all the modern images b&w instead.

I like the altered image looking hand-sketched.  If the rest of the card has color, this might be a way to go.

Here we have the hand-sketched look, watercolor, and an abstract style.

This is fun.

Hand sketch or watercolor. Both are solid.

The 'battles' will be trying to gain first downs vs the other player's defense (duh).
I want it to feel like a drive, and each play may be quick or take a few back-and-forths playing different cards.
0-3 first downs = punt
4 first downs = field goal attempt
5 first downs = touchdown
.
Keeping it simple, there are running plays for no gain, short gain, or long gain.
Passing plays are incompletion, short gain, long gain
.
Combinations yielding a first down:
Runs:  3 short gains, 2 long gains, or 1 short + 1 long gain
Passes:  1 long completion, 2 short comps, or 1 short + 1 long comp
Mix:  1 short completion + 1 long run gain OR 2 short run gains, 1 long completion + 1 short or long run gain
.
Passes require a dice roll, based on the real-life completion % of the QB.  Short passes will have a higher comp %, longer ones a lower %.

Trying it with a team-color band on the name/school line.  Idk if it's any better or not.
