Mt. Rushmore with template
« on: March 07, 2024, 11:08:49 PM »
Your school's Mt. Rushmore, but it has to be:
Head Coach
QB
Offensive player
Defensive player
.
Example:
Steve Spurrier
Tim Tebow
Emmitt Smith
Jack Youngblood
.
See how easy it is?!?
Maybe not so easy for some schools.

Tom Osborne
Tommie Frazier
Johnny Rodgers
N. Suh

Seems improper to not include a OL, say Dave Rimington.

The QB and offensive player are tough.  Duffy and Bubba are the obvious coach and defensive player.

I think I'll give the nod to Connor Cook and Lorenzo White, due to both having 3 great years, even if maybe they didn't have the highest peaks, like a Kenneth Walker or Charles Rogers

Coach: Jeem (went to 3 playoffs and won a Natty)

QB is tough....Drew Henson is the best I ever saw, but only got like 10 starts out of him in 3 years. Denard was the most prolific stats wise when you count pass + rush and certainly very exciting to watch- but he didn't win and he was not a great thrower. Rick Leach played in an era where they just didn't throw. Chad Henne was a 4 year starter but he never really got any better after a stellar true freshman year...he was pretty much the same guy- really good but never took a jump. Jeem could be on there. JJ has a case, 27-1 as a starter and won a Natty. Tough.

Offense: Anthony Carter
Defense: Charles Woodson

For Ohio State:
Coach is obvious, has to be Woody.
QB is tricky. Troy Smith is our only Heisman QB but didn't win an NC.

Rex Kern from the 1968 NC team was a Woody QB so he probably had less passing yards in his whole career than some more recent guys have had in a good month.

The two recent NC QB's are interesting but Krenzel was a Tressel caretaker QB and Cardale basically had three phenomenal games.

Several recent QB's have MUCH better passing stats than any prior guys but no NC's or Heisman Trophies.

I'm going to go with Kern because, within his era, he was great. Also, I've watched the 1969 RoseBowl and Kern was absolutely great at hiding the ball. The USC defenders just tackled everybody because they had no idea who had the ball.

Offensive player has to be Archie because nobody else has a two-time Heisman.

Defensive player there are a lot of greats but I'm not sure who to pick. Maybe Tatum.

I would probably pick Orlando Pace over Archie. For one, he played while I was alive so I am biased. But for two, you can make the case that he is the best offensive tackle of all time, not something I think you can do for Archie. I would probably pick A.J. Hawk for defense, but again, I'm biased by having seen him as opposed to Jack Tatum or guys like that.

I don't think I would even put Archie in the top 10 offensive tackles of all time

Some schools might only have a Stone Mountain, instead of a Mt Rushmore.

A few could merely have a Crazy Horse.

Darrel Royal
Vince Young
Earl Campbell
Tommy Nobis

You could do Ricky Williams instead of Earl Campbell but I think the other 3 are set.
