I think Ricky Williams is underrated.
In his worst yards-per-carry season, he had 2,000 yards and 27 TDs, lol.

Looks appropriate.

I'll do sort of a reverse-Rushmore based on who an archival hated the most, which means it might be pretty close to what an actual Sooner might say:

Barry $witzer
Josh Heupel
Adrian Peterson
Brian Bosworth

Billy Sims
Setting the Big Eight record with 1,762 yards in 1978, Sims averaged 7.0 yards per carry and found the end zone 20 times on the ground. The Hooks, TX, product logged four 200-yard games ad won the Heisman Trophy. In 1979, Sims finished with 1,670 yards and scored 23 touchdowns, but 529 yards came in the Sooners' final two regular season games against Missouri and Nebraska, after a portion of the Heisman ballots had already been cast. As a result, he finished runner-up to USC’s Charles White, becoming one of only six players to ever win the award and finish second. He wrapped up his OU career with 164 yards in the Orange Bowl against Florida State and ended with 4,118 career rushing yards, still good for second in program history. Sims was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions

yup Billy Sims would be a good choice too

And for Texas Cedric Benson would also be a worthy selection.  But it's kind of hard to pick him over Ricky or Earl.

Top 10 all time rusher.  In fact I think Texas is the only school to have 2 on that list.

This is a college football university-specific Mt. Rushmore.

Benson's NFL career stats are better than Ron Dayne's but I'm sure you think Dayne belongs on your Rushmore...

That same list (minus G5, because no), by yards per carry:
Dayne - 5.7
Williams - 6.2
Taylor - 6.7
Dorsett - 5.7
Freeman - 5.9
White  - 5.5
Benson - 5.0
.
Benson had the same number of carries as Dayne, with 800 fewer yards.
Not elite.

Taylor is the best RB I've seen at Wisconsin. But Dayne did more for the program, including 2 Rose Bowl MVP awards, won a Heisman, and his name is on the Camp Randall facade.

Taylor should have won a Heisman, but those are for QB's only now.

Yes, I know. He screwed himself off the field.

Dayne got a raw deal in New York. The coach hated him.

NFL, I know - who cares. But just for kicks.

Dayne

Benson (RIP)

Same YPC. Benson better at receiving and not better at fumbling. Similar TD's.

Overall, Benson was better because he got more attempts.

And Benson got a raw deal in Chicago because the Bears still suck, the Bears still suck, they really really really really really really suck.  The Bears... still... suck.
We can do this all day.

Benson in the NFL had more yards, more TDs, and was a significantly better receiver.  Overall, a better back.  But I'm not claiming Dayne doesn't belong on a Mt. Rushmore for Wisconsin.

It's all moot though because Ricky Williams and Earl Campbell exist, and deserve to be on the mountain more than poor Cedric (RIP).

Not really. The Bears went to a Superbowl with Benson. They were pretty good there for a while.
