I shared some coverage with my students today. They had A LOT of questions.
Another teacher was in my room, observing a student. Said she was in kindergarten when it happened, made me feel old. I was 21 asleep at a lady-friend's place
when her sister called and woke us up, telling us to put on the news.
That was between the 2 planes hitting the WTC. We saw the 2nd and my friend was still thinking it was an accident, but I told her nope, not after 2. It was on purpose.
My students today wanted to know everything about it. Yes, everyone in the planes died. Yes, the people in the buildings died. No, there weren't any kids in the buildings. Yes, we found out who did it.
The biggest question mark after all of the questions is that they couldn't wrap their heads around people doing this and knowing they'd die doing it.
How do you explain demented ideological actions to a 9 year old? You don't.
