DOGE government layoffs could start becoming a factor in jobs report

Maybe, I still view this DOGE thing as mostly a nothing with a lot of ink.

The idea they could magically save trillions never made any sense, to me, and even hundreds of billions is a huge stretch.  Maybe they can cut a hundred billion, but I doubt even that without Congress.
maybe these efforts are a drop in the bucket but, a move in the right direction is a good move.
even if it's just a message being sent, it can have some value
push the envelop let the courts and judges decide if it's too much
at least Trump is doing something, even if it's not always what's best for everyone.
most of us were tired and frustrated with the past 20 years of politics and politicians doing nothing

But I have never felt as far away from party as I do now from the Democrats. It’s hard to understand their positions on things which are really just not common sense and are outrageous. Having open borders, defending the police, having men playing women’s sports, it just goes on and on and on. They clearly favor other parties over the good of America and it’s just hard to accept anything. They stand for today
I'm a little different in that I've always been right of the R's so the Democrats have never been close to me but this still just amazes me.

A while back in this thread I asked the D's if they could explain why the D's went off the rails on the immigration issue and nobody bothered to respond.  I assume it is because there isn't a coherent response but I don't know.

When @OrangeAfroMan says that poor and middle class people are "voting against their interests" by supporting R's I just think of this list (and lots more, of course):
  • Open Borders are bad for America but they are particularly bad for the lower classes because they compete directly for jobs and services with unskilled immigrants.
  • Defunding the Police is particularly bad for the lower classes because they can't escape crime by hiding out in gated upper-class suburbs.  For limousine liberals it doesn't matter.
  • Men playing women's sports is so silly that to even have to discuss it is absurd.  Same with all the "(She/Her)" and "(He/Him)" that I see in emails and whatnot, tampons in boys bathrooms, 'boys can have babies', etc.

One problem I have with divisive leaders in a "democracy" is they often can't get much done with no support from "the other side".  This can be a good thing of course.  But if "WE" want big changes in the political arena in the US, it simply does take some bupartisan support to get it done.  And that means compromise, and some effort to avoid antagonizing the other side at every turn.

True, but not sure when the dog and pony show ends.

It appears both sides are content with trading executive orders, and then rescinding them every 4 years.

Dumb.

Part of the reason is that "divisive candidates" can be much stronger in the primaries than the general, so they get nominated, and then try and run back to the middle (often).  This presumes of course that a party has primaries.

Yes this behavior is as old as time, numerous articles written about it, going back scores of years.

This area used to be very safe.

Chicago shooting: 18 shot, 4 fatally, in River North outside Artis restaurant hosting party for Mello Buckzz, police say - ABC7 Chicago
After they catch the killers, put 2points on their Drivers License, then release them- they will blame Trump for being divisive or Republicans for gun control issues.

What a cesspool that place has become.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

It's a shame what "leadership" has done to that City, all in less than 10 years.

Within the last 20-25 years this has changed somewhat as they don't really even try to "run back to the middle" in the general.  This used to be standard practice just as you laid it out:
  • D's had to run left to win their primary
  • R's had to run right to win their primary
  • Either needed to "run back to the middle" or else they'd alienate the famed "middle voters" that decided elections.

Starting with Gore in 2000 and accelerating ever since instead of trying to flip moderate "persuadables" most candidates have instead focused almost exclusively on driving up engagement/turnout among non-voters who ALREADY share their views.
