I think usually we have a sequence:

1.  Protesters show up to protest, mostly peacefully, blocking traffic and chanting.
2.  Hooligans show up and use the opportunity to break things and burn things.
3.  Looters show up to ... loot.  By then, most protesters have left.
4.  The police regain control and life goes on.

ZeroHedge article has their own version of the sequence:

Blocking traffic is not a peaceful protest.

Blocking traffic is not a peaceful protest.

Or a legal one, sans a permit.  And if there's a permit, the roads will be closed off and traffic would already be diverted.  Too many people redrawing the lines for this stuff.

Peacefully protest all you want.  Don't be a mob and then tell me "peaceful protest."

If all they do is block traffic for a period of time, and chant or sing and carry signs, fine with me.  But this isn't all they do.  Even if 99% of the protesters mean to do only that, 1% will find a way in and start up the mayhem, looting, vandalism, destruction, etc.

If they have no permit and aren't supposed to be blocking traffic, not fine with me.

And winking at even that much just invites the other stuff you mention.  It's the give an inch, take a mile thing.

Obey the law or get arrested.  Coddling the behavior and saying well, it's mostly peaceful is just going to get you where this always goes.

you have a ton of rights when your life is in danger
It's part of Florida's "stand your ground" law.

It is more than just the inch/mile thing.

When they block traffic emergency vehicles can't get through.  This both increases the damage because fire engines can't respond to put out fires and also decreases the chances of any of the violent looters getting arrested because police can't get through to arrest them.

Make no mistake, those blocking traffic are simply covering the violence of those beyond them.
Ron DeSantis says Floridians have right to hit protesters with cars
I like this solution.  I think we would all agree that if your car is surrounded by these idiots, your life is in danger and you would be fully justified to hit the accelerator and flee knowing that in the process you will be inflicting significant bodily harm and possible death on some of the protestors.

In that situation myself I'd fall back on what a lot of my police friends say, "I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by six."
