I don't think so anymore. China is under tremendous pressure internally and externally, and there is even some chatter about regime change.
We don't see even 0.1% of the news of unrest in China. I can usually tell when something's going on, though, just by the level of communication and transparency with our supply chain partners over there.

During the COVID lockdowns when the CCP was reporting pretty much zero cases and zero deaths, our manufacturing dropped to almost zero and our  normally hyper-communicative supply partners went radio silent.  They didn't ever tell us anything was wrong, but they stopped attending meetings, started missing deadlines, all extremely unusual behavior for a traditionally dedicated, hard-working population.

Lately, they're starting to become more difficult to get a hold of once again.  I've seen this pattern before.

I've been selling since January, I wish I had sold more.  I'm certainly not buying anything but CDs and Treasuries.

The Dow is off 700, which isn't unusual these days.  I think it's going a good bit lower, we could be down 2,000 by close.

Selling since April 4 is a great way to lose money.

I didn't sell anything when we were out of town for a month, and since then all I've done is buy put options as insurance.

The DJIA now off nearly 800.  They panicin', Morty, I can feel it.

My biggest concern is that in a battle of patience, China has a much longer rope.

President Trump can blame the current economy as a hangover from President Biden, but eventually there will be no excuses left. He probably has until the midterms to make a case that the tariffs worked or to make a deal with China.

I share your concern, though I'm glass-half-full on it all working out well.  Rationally, the other guys here have some good points.  The CCP does not always act rationally.

Also agree on economy going forward.  By the time mid-terms get here, the economy will mostly be the product of whatever the current administration has done.

I'm usually too negative on stocks, and know this to be the case, but obviously occasionally I'm right by chance.  I'm quite negative on the economy at the moment over the next year.

I do expect Trump and probably the Fed to "goose" things soon.  I don't think that will work that well.  It's too artificial.  I'm looking at personal debt levels in the US and know our economy is consumer driven.  Once things enter a spiral they can get bad quickly, and we already have pretty low interest rates.

And the deficit is so large the government can't readily stimulate more with tax cuts (but probably will).

For the economy in general, sure.

But for the import/export ratio, the trend must reverse.  It was artificially stimulated by customer buy-ahead purchasing behavior to get ahead of the tariffs. For it to continue, the purchasing of imported goods would need to remain at an artificially high level, which it can't and won't, because then customers would be buying at the increased tariff prices they were deliberately avoiding in Q1.

This wasn't net incremental purchasing, it was pull-in behavior from future quarters.  We've already seen substantial drops over the past 2 weeks in purchasing of tariff-impacted goods.

I am a Buyer in the distribution sector, and I have to say --- you are a pretty fart smeller.

100% on target.

President Donald Trump signed executive orders Tuesday to relax some of his 25% tariffs on automobiles and auto parts, a significant reversal as the import taxes threatened to hurt domestic manufacturers.

And this is the distribution business I am in.  :)
