Interesting that others share some of my troublesome dreams.  Car going downhill with no brakes, forgetting to attend class all semester but showing up for the final.  Similar to that is trying to find the room the final is in. I find the numbered rooms on each side and dragging my hand along the wall to find the missing room.  An old one is trying to phone a number on a rotary phone but keep screwing up trying to dial it.

Not quite going downhill with no brakes, but I do have a recurring dream where I'm back in an old diesel Dodge Ram I used to own but it's too powerful to be fully braked.  I'm usually trying to park, or stop, or something where I just want to sit still, but the truck keeps going and pushes right through the brakes' ability.  It had a heckuva lot of torque, but it braked just fine.  Not sure why it later became an anxiety dream for me.

The only other one I can think of is dreams about any number of situations where I'm either in danger or there's an emergency, but I'm either stuck in slow motion, or else my running steps just don't gain any ground and I can't get any further away from danger or closer to where I'm trying to go.  I dream some variation of that somewhat frequently.

I have the "falling" dreams.  With me as the faller, and sometimes my kids.

Leaning against a balcony railing, and it gives way.......over we go.

Pretty terrifying, really.

My wife had a living nightmare on the way to work this morning.

She asked me yesterday on her way home "I can make it back to Costco for gas on the way in tomorrow, right?" And of course I said yes. She had *plenty* of margin.

And she texted me and said that when she pulled in, her car said 2 miles to empty. So she was having massive anxiety as she was fighting through traffic on her way.

I told her that when it says zero, you've still probably got 10+ miles in the tank. But she still has anxiety over it.

Personally I love when I pull up to the pump and it says some low single digit--or even zero--miles left. I take a picture and text it to her :57:

My ex would run a car dry fairly often, and then call me to help (before cell phones).  She must have done this 10 times over the years.  It wasn't her fault of course.

She hated to get gas, apparently.  I had to keep a close eye on both cars.  I don't know what I was thinking.

Our cars don't have a fancy "miles til empty" display, just the old fuel light that comes on when there's only 2 gallons left.  She can't stand for the light to be on and fills up at the nearest station.  She has legit anxiety about it.  I tell her it means she has two gallons left and she'd be fine driving home and back to work the next day and probably would only need to stop on the way home.  She ain't gonna do it.  When my light comes on I reset the secondary odometer and let it go.....I know I have about 65 city miles and about 80 road miles before I'm dry.  She hates riding with me when my light is on and I won't fill up yet.

EDIT:  It probably doesn't help that when I was younger I ran out of gas twice in my teen years, and I've told her that.  Meh.....learning experiences.  Helped me better gauge how far I can and can't go :)

Mind you, I don't go past zero--I don't know HOW much margin I've got. I just know I have some, and zero doesn't actually mean zero.

So I'm not running the fuel pump dry.

Edit to add: I don't do this frequently. I generally time my gas to my weekly Costco trips, and if I'm below half or so, and certainly if I'm near 1/4 tank, I'll probably just fill up b/c I'm already there. But in the rare case that I know I'm going to be cutting it close, I don't get anxiety over it.

Semiconductors, super computers, wafer fab equipment-- all are ideal targets for repatriation and/or increased American manufacturing by foreign companies.

Seems like someone around here might have suggested such over the past couple weeks, months, years...

So what about this nutjob who broke into the Pennsylvania Governor's mansion and molotov'd Gov. Shapiro and his family?

There's a lot of disturbing things about that story, one of which is HTF did this guy get in there in the first place?  Like....I'm not impressed with the security detail.  Seems like that shouldn't happen.

Shapiro said in his statement that not only had his family been attacked, but the commonwealth of Pennsylvania had been attacked.  At least in a sense, I agree with him.  In addition to the physical crime committed against the specific family and property, when you target an elected leader, you're potentially throwing everything in his jurisdiction into chaos by harming him.  In cases like this, I favor especially harsh punishments.

EU Spares American Bourbon from Trade War Tariffs After Intense Lobbying. In a surprising twist amid escalating global trade tensions, the European Union has decided to remove American bourbon and other U.S. whiskeys from its list of retaliatory tariffs. This decision comes as a relief to the drinks industry

I don't think the idea was controversial, just the "how."
