My comments are meant to reflect how Democratic policies are perceived, by many, not whether they are good or bad. We all accept that governments have useful and critical functions though we may disagree on the list. But, being perceived as "Elect us, we're smarter than you" is not a good image.

A lesser government that was largely not centralized didn't work even way back then, so they changed it. The "they" largely feared government as a concept but realized we needed one. It has grown a bit since then.
