Spatchcock and smoke is so good! When we're eating with MY family, my dad always deep-fries one, and I always smoke one.

This year we'll be eating enchiladas at my inlaws, I think. I'm considering smoking a turkey before-hand and bringing smoked turkey mole enchiladas as our contribution...

Based on the exit polls and demographics- the election was about a lot more than legislation.

I am seeing a lot of "liberals" on FB Claiming Trump will do X, Y, Z, Q, etc., much of which he didn't even promise. I see some conservatives declaring this will be some New Age with gas at a buck a gallon (or so) and inflation reversed and MUCh lower taxes and all the illegal folks gone. I agree they are the more strident parts of any social media community and probably not reflective of the whole.

I've had to tell a couple of my friends to get a grip. I had to do the same thing 4 years ago. No, Trump isn't going to drive the US into the ground and ruin the entire world. He's not going to do that any more than Biden has over the past 3+ years.

The histrionics would be laughable if they weren't so damn pathetic.

I'm trying to figure out in a practicable sense how "deportations" can work. My wife wanted to go by Home Depot so we did and I saw the usual 5-6 young fellows loitering outside. They looked Hispanic, OK, fine. Are they "legal"? Probably not, but how would I know (were I an authority)?

"Hey, Juan, are you here legally?"

"Of course, Senor."

"Have a nice day."

None of us with some exceptions have to show "papers". We can walk around with zero ID, zero proof of citizenship or anything else, and of course many Hispanics are citizens. Sure, is there is some record in The System, that can be traced, if you can make ID. Will we have brownshirts walking around detaining folks UNTIL they can prove legal status just because they look brown?

I'd be against that obviously.

I hate immigration law, mostly because it is a sea of uncertainty. We regularly get guidelines on what is and isn't important when working out criminal cases, and it is a morass. Immigration "courts" I believe are just extensions of the Department of Justice, so anyone who comes on the radar can get tangled up in them and detained without much in the way of rights.

I still don't see how "government" can discern who is here entirely legally and who is not. That strikes me as an important point.

I've noted before that when leaving the Schengen Zone, they check your passport, and stamp it. Otherwise, you can overstay, and it would be obvious if they check your passport and see the date you arrive. The US has no such exit process, so a person can enter legally on a 90 day visa and just stay.

And these "sanctuary cities" as I understand them just don't ask immigration status so they have no information to report. Can we make them ask? They arrest someone and ask, and Juan says "I was born here". OK, fine, then what?

I don't know that they even have to prove it. They just have to allege it. I assume Trump will issue some edict that we will deport 10 million or 20 million or whatever number he thinks of that day, then passes the duty of details down the pike.
