SF did a great job breaking it down. Others have followed with their thoughts and the thread evolved in a great way.

States are different. Illinois is right next to Indiana, and they could not be more different.

Do you see all those blue counties in NE Illinois? That's 8 million people in Chicago and metro.

Kentucky has 4.5 million.

Ohio has 11 million people. There is no reasonable argument that Chicago will make all our decisions if you got rid of the electoral college. The math ain't mathin.

It’s actually both. Federally, yes, it’s a republic. But state-wide and local, we vote yes and no on specific legislation all the time.
