I can't think of another city with such a unique food item so popular in that city and nearly unknown outside of it.  I know there are some joints in Florida and Columbus, but it hasn't really spread except for "natives", and it's everywhere in Cincy.

Not sure if this is the best thread for this, but here goes.

I guess we're pretty much in the final stretch of the election, so I wanted to share some things about how I feel about this one.

I'll try to keep this as non-political as I can, and I don't really need any retorts or anybody trying to change my mind.

I did not vote for Trump in 2016 or 2020.  I have never much liked the man, and I'm not really sure what he did to deserve all the praise and accolades that some freely give him.  I did not vote for Biden/Harris in 2020.  I simply did not vote for anybody in the Presidential race, but I did vote in the election.

I asked my brother in law if he was voting for Trump the other day.  We are both like minded people, neither one of us voted for Trump and we don't much care for him.  Lots and lots of our family really love him, they wear the MAGA hats, have the MAGA flags, the whole schtick.  He told me he didn't see what choice we had.  We both discussed how the current admin appears to have just let the border go to a free-zone, inflation out of control, whacked out policies with regards to some far leftist views that we do not share.

We did agree that there seems to be a lot of bullshit going on with fake news and accusations against Trump from the established media, and we both feel that there is a very strong traditional media bias towards him that they other candidates do not get.  We talked at length about how weird it was that everybody could see how diminished Biden was even before the 2020 election and even worse now but the media pretty much chose to ignore it until the 2024 debate and then all of a sudden it's an issue.  It's as if they were telling us how wrong we were, about how sharp he was, and when the debate happened they switched course and then it was like a surprise how poorly he did?

We both discussed how the Hunter laptop story was deliberately suppressed by the media and the Biden/Harris campaign, how they tried to impeach him over some fake Russian collusion bullshit that ended up being nothing, now they're trying to charge him with everything under the sun in what appears to be straight up more bullshit lawfare.  I will admit that everything he's accused of doing, he probably did, and a lot of rich people like him probably do the same thing all the time.  I'm not concerned about any of the charges or so called felonies they've stuck him with, even though I know he is probably guilty of all of them.  Nobody cares, because it's more trumped up bullshit that would never fly with all the other rich douchebags who run the show in NYC and other places.

On the other hand, you've got a candidate who was never elected, never won a primary or vote even in her own state, who appears to be an extremely left wing super liberal candidate that the media is simply whitewashing her record.  Her own city (SF) is an apparent dump where you can't even buy personal products without getting somebody to unlock the cabinet, homeless camps are taking over entire areas, housing costs are so high that people are just leaving.  And it's getting worse, not better.  This is the person the democratic party has selected to run for President, even though every single person on this board will acknowledge that she could have NEVER been selected through a traditional primary/convention process.  Yes, I'm aware she was the VP for Biden, but I also dare anybody to suggest that the VP pick has influenced their pick for President in a serious manner. Maybe you liked one VP or another, but I don't think I've ever voted for President based on who the VP was.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of options, I will be voting for Trump in 2024 simply because I believe there is no other choice.  I do not agree with all that he says (and he says a lot, much of it amounts to nothing) but he's already been President once before and democracy did not end, the country did OK, and I truly believe that "the other guy" will make things much worse.

Not a very high bar.

I appreciate your post, though.  And I'd still vote for a citizen chosen at random over Trump.

I wish we had options.

I honestly probably would too, but Harris isn't "random".

I probably would too.  Unfortunately "citizens chosen at random" don't make the ballot.

But regardless of the individuals running for office, neither party platform aligns close enough to my personal beliefs, so as usual I won't be voting for either one of them.

After head surgery, something happened where I couldn't wear contacts and was forced to wear glasses all the time. It was absolutely terrible so i understand your hope to avoid. After the rest of me was healthy enough, i opted for Lasik.. and wish i would have 10 years ago. Completely life changing. Wore contacts for 33 years at that point.. Waking up and just being able to see without scrambling to find glasses or put contacts in was an amazing life change. Hope you find a solution because i learned what I had been missing for 30 years.
I have been "legally" blind without my glasses since I was 5yo.  Been wearing contacts for 51 years (I was one of the first people to get soft contacts after they were approved by the FDA when I was 13).  I have given up hope of ever being able to wake up and not have to grab my glasses, I am just thankful right now that I can see and my sight has not deteriorated much.

I don't find these reasons to be very compelling. While I would prefer a democratic process to choose a candidate, that isn't her fault and if anything I was pretty impressed at how quickly she consolidated support. I don't know if San Francisco is a dump or not, the fact that houses coast so much makes me think it isn't. In any event, who cares? People who have seen my hometown would think it is a dump, but not sure why that reflects on me personally.

Believing she is super liberal or extremely left wing would be a good reason not to support her, though I think she seems fairly conservative. She was a prosecutor, after all, and she never seemed very comfortable trying to be liberal in 2020. Her campaign hasn't been super liberal at all.

Did she though?  What did she do to consolidate support?  Biden dropped out, and then the media, who just weeks and months before were pretty much ignoring her and even saying she was one of the most disliked VP's ever suddenly came out like they were with her all along.

I believe she was in the middle of her first term as a Senator, was nothing special, before getting picked for VP in large part due to DEI.  I'm not sure how stupid you think I am, but Biden did say he was going to pick a female VP, and probably one of color.  He didn't say I'm picking the best person for the job, he said he was going to pick a woman of color.

I think it would reflect on you personally if you were one of the ones in charge.

I don't think either party is being very smart.  They both seem terrified to take their bases for granted, when their bases have never been more radical and blindly following.

If either side did it, they'd win in a walk.  But I'm probably wrong.

He didn't say I'm picking the best person for the job, he said he was going to pick a woman of color.
Is it her fault for what the media does though?  I look at it like the Trump-Russian interference thing - the person in question may have nothing directly to do with it, merely benefitted from it.  Shrug.
.
As for the above, it's probably because if/when the best person for that job had ever been a woman of color EVER, that person didn't get the job.
So yeah, there's that.
