I will say that Mike Dewine write a nice recommendation for my kid to law school that carried some weight apparently.  I THINK Jack Kemp might be OK, I didn't like his commercial when he ran the first time.

Remember when Georgia pass that "draconian" voting law that would obviously stop any black person from voting?  It was SO bad the MLB moved the All Star game to Colorado?  A state with stricter voting laws than Georgia?  Now the All Star game is back next year.  Yay, I guess.

Tulsi is fascinating.  She's very centrist, but in sort of the wrong ways to be electable.  And I'm not sure any centrist is electable at this point.

My wife was very upset when Trump was elected, I said it likely wouldn't change our day to day lives.  It didn't.  We became somewhat better off from 2016-2020.  She was elated when Biden got elected, I said it likely wouldn't change our day to day lives.  It didn't.  We became somewhat better off from 2020-2024.  I just can't understand getting so twisted in knots over any of this.  People love complaining about how bad things are when their party isn't in power, but largely things just keep moving in the same general direction, outside of crazy events, which just are a speed bump in that trajectory.  If Trump wins, my life will be largely unchanged.  If Harris wins, my life will remain largely unchanged.  My actual biggest issue with the past 16 years isn't the politics of Obama, Trump, Biden, but the large extremes we went to with Executive Orders.  Obama expanded them well beyond what was even remotely accepted.  Hell, even SNL made fun of it (below).  And then Trump took it to another level, as did Biden.  Did I agree with Trump on a lot of Obama era things he overturned?  Yes.  Did I agree with Biden on a lot of Trump edicts he overturned?  Yes.  But at some point, you actually undermine your global power when everyone knows the Treaties you enter into are only as good as the administration who signs them; and Trump could allow drilling under Mar A Lago tomorrow, and it wouldn't change a damn thing, because nobody is going to invest in infrastructure that is only valid depending on the administration

ELA is probably right.  Who wins probably won’t make much difference in my day to day life.  ( well, how much things cost might be effected, how much I have to pay in taxes, if I am the victim of a crime- if and how much punishment the perpetrators receive might be effected, who I am allowed to hire and whether it is based on meritocracy or other factors might be effected, if people I know in the military have to fight in other places in the world might be, weather my kids can afford a house might be, if I die, what I plan to leave for my kids after 40 years in the workforce might be.  And a few other unimportant things, but they are all just “maybe’s “)

I disagree when people clown on Kamala about her saying what she plans to do with "you've been there 3 1/2 years--why didn't you already fix it???" Uhh, because she was the VP, dumbass. It's a position with basically zero power. 

But the completely justifiable question if they want to complain about stuff during the DNC would be "well Biden's been there for 3 1/2 years--why didn't he already fix it???" You know who wasn't there the last 3 1/2 years? Trump. Even if you inherited a mess from the former guy, you can't complain you inherited a mess 3 1/2 years later. You have to show you've done something about it.

I would say that as far as powers of a VP goes, well it really just depends on the President. W in his first term gave Cheney enormous latitude and power to run the show when it came to foreign policy. What we do know is that the one thing that was specifically tasked to her by Biden, the border, was a disaster. What we do know is that she had insane staff turnover- something like 94%- and reporting done by what are essentially Democrat establishment rags like Axios and Politico- was that she was a fucking nightmare to work for.

And I do wonder how much influence she has in the White House. Joe Biden clearly ain't and hasn't been running that show on his lonesome. Dudes brain is play-doh. That begs the question. Who is actually calling shots and running shit day to day? The VP? ANT-ny Blinken? Jill Biden? It ain't the former Senator from MBNA.

Its probably some young Senate intern girl whose hair smells nice.

From everything I've read, her responsibility wrt immigration was working with South American countries trying to address root causes of why their countries were so fcked that they wanted to illegally cross our border, NOT anything directly related to being in charge of the southern border. I get why Republicans want to hang that on her neck now, and politically it might stick, but I don't think it's actually true.

Post-debate when the Dems were in literal panic mode it suddenly started coming out that Jill and a couple of key advisers might be his "handlers" who are controlling access to Joe and his responses to them. I can't really confirm or deny as I wasn't there, but it certainly didn't sound like more than about 2-3 people, Kamala NOT being one of them, were part of that inner circle.
