DNC ratings might be higher if Joe stays in, but they could  go higher if he's out.  A lot of folks might watch dribs and drabs, and then tune out.  I would read a few summaries the next day to see if anything monumental happened.  Life goes on.

I'm reading on Facebook that Trump is worse than Hitler.

This would be an absolutely genius move:
  • Joe Announces BEFORE the convention that he is dropping out and releases his delegates.
  • The Convention becomes an open Convention with actual suspense.
  • Ratings go through the roof.
  • Democratic nominee takes that momentum and runs with it.
Yeah, and that solves the Kamala problem. Instead of looking like the Dem establishment is hand-picking the candidate and has to pick her for optics, they can let the delegates fight it out and watch as they steer it away from her.

I.e. ballot one she gets a plurality. Ballot two it weakens. Ballot three someone else picks up the plurality, and she gets progressively marginalized over the next few ballots until someone gets the majority and the nomination...

This would be good, but political types are allergic to anything not predetermined.

The key is making sure their predetermined outcome happens while looking anything but predetermined :57:

I agree the fix would be in, she'd win first ballot I suspect.  The plurality idea is however possible of course, and then you'd have something of a mess.

At the moment, nobody else is publically running of course.

Exactly! A glorious, ratings-fueled mess! Give them chances to give speeches between ballots. Which gives the eventual candidate time to get known to the public and get tons of airtime to voice their platform. Drag it out for 4 days so that on the final night everyone's wondering "are they actually gonna finish this thing with a candidate???" And then the winner's nomination acceptance speech can be the big unity moment that Democrats nationwide can get behind because they did it "the right way".

This would be WAY more compelling TV than any national convention in recent memory, and be watched by TONS more people than Hulk Hogan.

No convention would invite Hulk Hogan, that would be embarassing.

This, exactly this is what I was thinking when I first chimed in.

The longer it takes the better for them. It would be compelling TV with real drama and suspense. Speeches would be seen by MILLIONS and not just Democrats because plenty of Republicans would tune in to find out who the nominee was.

I don't understand why that many more would tune in beyond briefly, or by channel surfing and flipping.  These things are boring, to me anyway.  The drama is backstage, and you can easily read who was chosen the next day.  But, I grant, maybe millions more would tune in.  I just don't get it.

I still think who ever the Dems pick( if not Biden), will win.

Trump had a chance to close the door most of the way last night, but completely botched it by being, well, Trump.

Why do we watch football games when we could easily just find out who won the next day?

This is how we wind up with President Oprah.
