You speak as if a wall keeps people out.  It's a lovely fiction.  The illusion of security.  It' adorable.

A wall, or other suitable barrier, will be more difficult to traverse, and enables fewer Border Patrol agents to secure the area.  I don't view this is fiction, it seems pretty obvious to me.

I don't think we need a wall along the entirety of the border.  I would say "suitable barrier".

Humans build walls to make getting in, or out, more difficult.

The Maginot Line wasn't a wall, but it is similar, a series of connected fortresses designed to make it difficult for the Germans to invade France, or at least slow them considerably to allow France time to respond.  And, it worked, tactically.  It failed strategically of course, but the Germans didn't come into France that way.

The Berlin Wall largely worked.  Walls around the White House and other sensitive establishments work, in part because they are manned and observed.  It's not that hard to build a wall no human can feasibly traverse (with taking to air or boat).  It has to be manned of course.  But I think in some areas of the border a wall isn't needed as such, and in some areas other kind of inhibiting features could work.

I think you have cartoony versions of walls in your head.
They laid out several examples of unpassable walls, and people could easily climb them.
Wall Fun
And before you say anything, sure, instead of many immigrants being women and children, we'd only be letting in the most physically-able people in.  You know, the ones most able to commit crimes and atrocities - or whatever fear-mongering you want to include.  Let's only allow the badasses in!

You mention the Berlin Wall being effective....which was under 100 miles long and heavily, HEAVILY guarded.  That's like comparing an apple to an airplane.  I guess we'd have an effective wall if guys with machine guns were stationed every 50 yards or so....for 2,000 miles.  How we paying for that?

Ask Israel how they do it.  And who paid for it.

(it was us).

By being small and resisting being erased from existence.

I doubt it'd be the same with 2,000 miles of border preventing a bunch of people seeking a better life for themselves.

And if you're choosing to jump in here, I KNOW I'm right.

Since you have criticized not just the wall but all Border Patrol expenditures generally, I have to ask: Is it your opinion that we should eliminate all border security expenditures?

Similarly, since you have opposed prohibiting immigration by obvious financial liabilities, is it your position that we should have no limits on immigration?
I'm not necessarily pro-eliminating all border security or think there should be no limits on immigration. I am saying our laws on immigration are crappy, and the efforts at border security are expensive and are making us poorer. Immigration restrictions are regulations on labor, and when we face labor shortages they cause inflation and hurt business. Hey, have you heard anything about inflation recently?

It's down, but the grocery stores are still very expensive. So is gas.

How much are we going to continually spend by actively monitoring 2,000 miles of this "suitable barrier"?

This is ridiculous.

I've gotten comparisons to Berlin, the White House, and Israel.

Everyone with an opinion thinks they're right....which is why they hold an opinion in the first place.
This is the dumbest, nothing-est retort ever.
