There is no solution, if you want the economy to be good. There are exceptions, but for the most part growth and activity is much better for the economy than shrinking and inactivity. Immigration is a vital part of that, and essential for the growth of the nation. The reason there hasn't been a solution is because there never was a problem to begin with. Most of the issues around immigration today that people hate are basically self-inflicted from previous regulations on immigration.

I personally think there is no practicable way to do much more than make it more difficult, but it would still be happening in large numbers.

We COULD start checking passports on the way out, that would maybe help some.  They do in Europe.

There's a difference between people wanting to come here...and it being really easy to get across the border and waltz in versus people wanting to come here and it being very hard to get across the border and once across even harder to stay here.

a strong deterrent would cut the numbers down
many folks don't have the stomach to treat illegals poorly, but being humane and being welcoming are two different things.

I find it odd how badly many want to keep out those most eager to be here.  They're not eager to show up and be assholes.  They want to work hard and get paid.  Just like you and me.

You two are so far out on the fringe on this that Biden, Kristoff, and the NYT are to your right.  

We do NOT have a shortage of unskilled and semi-skilled laborers.  We have an overabundance of such workers already so admitting more just makes the lives of the ones already here more miserable.  There is NO reason to import MORE unskilled and semi-skilled laborers.  

Income inequality continues to grow.  Back in the 1970's a guy could support his family on ONE income even if he was "only" a laborer.  A similar guy today generally has a similarly unskilled wife, they both work, and they can barely survive.  Quit screwing over the less fortunate by bringing in more competition for them.

There is a massive trial in Atlanta involving a rapper unknown by me who goes by Young Thug. What is known by me is that Young Thug's attorney told the judge that he heard that the judge, the prosecutor, and a witness had a private meeting without defense counsel. This type of thing is generally frowned upon. The judge didn't deny such a meeting occurred, but demanded to know who told the lawyer about it and has no jailed Young Thug's lawyer. This is during the trial, while the supposed witness is testifying. Juicy.

I'm also to the right of Obama, whose administration was more active than Trump's in deporting people. You are basically asking that we babysit people who can't work by denying people entry who can. Why would I want to do that? How is that good for anyone except people who hate work?

In this week’s scam, cybercriminals are impersonating U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. The scammers call you and claim that CBP has intercepted drugs or money shipments that are addressed to you. They insist that you must confirm personal details to help them resolve the case. If you refuse to cooperate, the scammers threaten to send police to arrest you.

To seem more credible, the scammers may provide actual CBP employee names and numbers that they find online, as well as fake case and badge numbers. In some cases, there is a recorded message that says to press a number to speak to a "CBP officer" about an intercepted shipment. The real CBP stresses that these calls are complete scams and that the agency never requests money or personal information like Social Security numbers over the phone.
