I'm on a corporate phone plan. A few years ago they moved from a corporate-procured device to a bring your own device model. To soften the blow of that switch they gave an allowance for buying the phone. At that time I moved to a Google Pixel 5. 

I keep seeing all the new Pixel devices being released, and keep thinking "eh, wouldn't it be nice to have a new flagship Pixel phone with a better camera and a snappier response due to better specs?" And I think it would. But at the same time I think "wouldn't it be better to keep that $800-1K in my pocket?" And I think it would. 

So I'll probably keep this phone until it dies.

I keep phones for 4-5 years, which is basically until they die.  I currently have the iPhone X.  Before that it was the 8.  Before that it was the 4gs which I had for like 8 years.  I took it into the Apple Store one time and my "genius" couldn't believe it.  It was in perfect working order, I just needed some help updating the Apple ID.  He asked if he could take the "antique" and show it to the other "geniuses."  Before I knew it, we were surrounded by 6-7 other Apple employees, all wondering how such a vintage piece could be in such pristine condition.

You guys realize that wages have remained largely stagnant since the 70s and that this sudden jump in MW is just a correction, right?

As in:  businesses that wouldn't have stayed afloat if wages had grown incrementally over time are the ones suddenly the "victims" of the correction.

Everyone gets that, right?

JFC…smartphone or flip phone?  Flip phone I’d assume because I just don’t hardly think any smart phone could last that long.

I’m equally impressed as 847’s record. 

4GS was the first smartphone in our family.  Got it for the wife, about 2011/12 as I recall. Very good phone, it lasted for years.  Pretty sure I have it in a drawer around here somewhere, it should still work. That was the last phone before they had the lightning chargers. 

Funny thing, I’ve had many poorer friends and acquaintances than myself but they’ve always had the better phones. I never had a current phone, always buying 2-3 year old models, and sometimes used ones. Hell, the guys that work for me have much newer phones than I have.

It was a smart phone.

I don't use my phone like one. I basically have no apps. They give me a free smart phone and I just take it.
