'We're living proof': Americans are being paid cash by governments to move to rural areas — is inflation relocation a cure to the cost-of-living crisis?

https://moneywise.com/life/lifestyle/americans-paid-cash-to-move-to-rural-areas

In a tough financial spot and with not much more to lose, the Baltimore dad of two decided to apply for Ascend West Virginia — a pay-to-move program that offers a $12,000 relocation bonus to its namesake state, a free outdoor recreation package and access to a co-working space for remote workers.

The family’s application was successful and they packed up their belongings and moved to Lewisburg, West Virginia.

“I’m sure there are people that think it’s a scam, but it’s not,” said mom Kelly about the program — one of several pay-to-move programs across the country designed to attract remote workers to smaller U.S. cities in order to boost local economies.

Why would Scottie need a lawyer?

He doesn't drink, smoke or swear.
I think he might drink. There's a picture of him at a local Augusta bar after he won the Masters. He looks happy in a way that I don't think comes JUST from the millions of dollars and green jacket.

the article said something about needing $97K to live well in West Virginia

doesn't take nearly that much in Western Nebraska or Western South Dakota
