not surprisingly coming from Glenn Greenwald. by far the most important American journalist since Sy Hersh and the most important of this era for sure, and one of the last remaining actual journalists and not a pure propagandist of the state like most of the rest.

I hear two very disparate stories about January 6.

1.  Some folks wondered through the building taking selfies, and

2.  An angry mob attacked the Capitol with the intent of overturning the electoral process.

I think some of the folks were in Part 1, but quite a few were in Part 2.
A lot of #2s turned into #1s once they didn't find any lawmakers anywhere and they were barred from exploring any further.
Think they'd have switched over if they found Pence walking in the hallway?

well there's really no way to charge them with pre-crime....we can only charge them with crimes they actually committed, this ain't minority report, hombre.

Mike Pence could use an ass whooping or two if you're asking me. He should also probably come out of the closet. No one can hate gay people that much without being a closeted gay who is ashamed and hates themselves. The right-wing nutjob Jesus Freaks like Pence are typically the ones with the craziest skeletons in the closet...

Pence should be physically assaulted?  To what end?

yeah, uhm, I was kidding. I really don't condone violence.

Pence is a major douche however.

1. some folks wondered through the building taking selfies
2. an angry mob attacked the Capitol because they were angry with little idea what they were doing
3. a very few people in groups like the proud boys and a few others hoped they'd be able to overturn the electoral process without guns or other means of force and no other plan.  They were there mostly hoping they'd be noticed by Trump as supporters.

it was a complete farce

the entire event had ZERO chance of overturning the electoral process even though the capitol police put up very little resistance.

I still have no clue wtf the capitol police were even doing. It was their job to protect the capitol. They had guns. People were breaching a secure area.

I tend to agree with #1, like 95%, because the protesters didn’t have guns. If they would’ve been armed it could have gotten really ugly.

Police are not allowed to use firearms (legally) except to protect themselves or others from serious bodily harm.  This is why they don't fire into crowds who are clearly rioting and destroying property.  The Capitol Police were attempting to use barricades and some nonlethal methods (tear gas, pepper spray) to deter the crowds.  This seems to have further enraged and already angry crowd.

There was the one incident of course where a CP fired his weapon (which remains controversial in terms of its use).  I continue to be struck by the two such very different views of this event.  I see both on social media fairly often if the topic comes up (along with the usual "what about this!!!" bringing in how government responded to some entirely different situation).

#45 offered up the National Guard to the former House Speaker and was rejected.
