They’re always talking about going green, energy efficiency, but they never consider how much energy it wastes to have engineered obsolescence in appliances that last less than 10 years when they could very easily make them last for 20 or more. You know, like we had from the 1950’s-1990’s.
Man, imagine trying to get a handle on that.

No dryer back then had a computer obviously.  They were ultra simple devices one could repair on one's own with a bit of skill.  There wasn't much to break, and whatever might break could be fixed.  Our new set is ultra complicated.  And in the 1950s I think most folks used solar energy to dry their clothes ...

Bullshit. Any old cheap computer will last 10 years. I’m rocking a Dell laptop from last decade no issues. The computer is just a circuit board or PCM, they’re not complicated. They’re built not to last on purpose. 5-7 years and they know we will throw them away and start over. But they force this extra complication in the name of going green, and it ends up being dirtier because it doesn’t last.

Interesting. We had Samsung for 12 years and as far as I know they never needed anything. We left them in Illinois when we moved and bought Samsung for Florida. No issues.
Yeah, our washer is Samsung and it's never had an issue. But the dryer has burned out the electric heater element once, had the belt tensioner pulley seize once requiring it and the belt to be replaced, and now whatever this is. All in 7 years.

I doubt they're "built not to last on purpose".

Rather, I think they're built as cheaply as possible to compete with other brands on price, with the idea that they be reliable "enough" to not get a bad brand reputation.

I’ve heard from multiple people that Samsung appliances are absolute shit. Especially refrigerators and washing machines.

If you want quality, buy Speed Queen.

No doubt that plays a part of it, but why is it that almost all brands of appliances across all price points are built to the same shit standards ?  I’d bet the average lifespan of all new appliances is less than 7 years. Sad.

Different things.  A modern dryer is very complex and has multiple switches, computers, gadgets, things that can go wrong.  Heat is of course one problem for electronics.

The solution to this is a subpanel for the kitchen, in the kitchen somewhere. Is your stove and oven electric?
I'd need to get to the box to run a subpanel so I have to fix the box access issue regardless.

doesn't matter they're all the same
I knew a guy who ran a trucking company and he did a lot of runs out of an appliance factory in NW Ohio. He confirmed this. The boxes coming out of there had all different brand names on them.

Those Dells are survivors.  I have a Latitude C600 laptop from 2001 that still runs.
