When workers get $15/hour to flip Big Macs... The Big Mac then costs $10.00. Worker still cannot afford Big Mac.
that's not true at all. assuming mcd's entire payroll is min wage (it's not) and assuming they'll want to pass along 100% of increased costs (they will, probably more like 175% if history of major corps is any judge), then the cost for their payroll to effectively double would be an average increase on products sold to be around 13%. So the big mac would go from $3.99 pre-tax (as listed on their website, i haven't eaten there in i don't know how long so no clue if its slightly different), to around $4.50.
a purdue study from a few years back found it to be quite a bit less of an increase, only about 4.3% increase, or $0.17 cents to $4.16.
and looking at europe, which the average min wage is roughly $12-13, but also typically offers far better benefits, has an average cost of a big mac around $4.75.
i'm generally not for the gov sticking their head into most issues, but the cost of living has increased a significant amount (housing/rent, transportation - both autos and fuel, utilities, food and other necessities, etc) and if the corps won't take it upon themselves to reinvest in the workers then maybe the gov should step in. its well overdue. and corps aren't hurting, they're posting record profits every qtr.
