They promised(?) an interim report by Feb. 30 or so.

NTSB briefing gives new clues to cause of midair collision near Reagan National Airport - WTOP News

The NTSB’s preliminary report on the collision is likely to be released in two weeks, but the full report is not expected until early 2026.

I mean, they probably already know what happened, yes.  But you still need to take time to examine every critical part and failure, training records, cockpit and flight recorders, eyewitness statements, have meetings, write reports, and come to a conclusion.  You can't just wrap everything up neat and tidy in 2-3 weeks after an accident, sometimes there is more than meets the eye.

How long until AI gets that job?....ingests all the relevant information and spits out a detailed summary and determinations on 1) what went wrong, 2) what should be done about it.

I'm pretty sure that can already be done, I just don't know to what degree of accuracy.  But those Skynet algorithms are getting better all the time....they'll get there.  Just a matter of how much we ever trust them when there won't be a lot of certainty about how conclusions were arrived at.

just look at where AI was 5 years ago to where it is right now....think of where it'll go in another 5 years. exciting times.
