Why does the PGA do this for its championship event?

1. Scottie Scheffler starts out at -10.
30. Justin Thomas starts at even par.

And then all of the in-between.

2. Schauffele starts at -8. 3. Matsuyama at -7.

And so on.

Why?

I don't like this at all.

Nobody (among fans) seems to like it. I think it's stupid. 

Problem is that in most sports you have a season-long race that confers SOME advantage to those who did better. Even if it's merely playoff seeding and in some cases home field advantage. 

And this is what they came up with. 

I'd have preferred a 32-player match play tournament. Seeded such that Scottie plays whoever is 2 spots below JT at 32nd. *Possibly* even including a stroke advantage based on something like their strokes gained (SG) numbers over the course of the season. 

I.e. it looks like Si Woo Kim is 32nd. Scottie on the season has an SG:Total of 2.487. Si Woo Kim has an SG:Total of 0.701, for a difference of 1.786. Round up to 2 and Scottie gets a stroke on 2 holes in match play. 

Continue throughout the bracket.

But TV execs hate match play. They've killed off the on PGAT match play event entirely as of this year. So that won't happen. 

This is why criticisms of Kamala being too liberal are way off base. The woman is a pragmatist through and through.

For a hyper-liberal, she'd be viewed as a pragmatic centrist, no doubt.  For a hyper conservative, Mitt Romney is viewed as a liberal/communist/RINO/socialist/dog abuser.

I've seen some liberals post on Facebook that MSNBC is too far right for them.

I suspect the term "pragmatist" is code for "opportunist willing to shade prior positions on things like fracking for more support".

The tied teams will be compared based on head-to-head matchups during the regular season.
The tied teams will be compared based on record against all common conference opponents.
The tied teams will be compared based on record against common opponents with the best conference record and proceeding through the common conference opponents based on their order of finish within the conference standings.
The tied teams will be compared based on the best cumulative conference winning percentage of all conference opponents.
The representative will be chosen based on the highest ranking by SportSource Analytics (team Rating Score metric) following the regular season.
The representative will be chosen by random draw among the tied teams conducted by the Commissioner or designee.


The 2024 Discover Big Ten Championship Game will be held on Saturday, December 7, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and will be broadcast for the first time on CBS. The winner will represent the conference as the Automatic Qualifier (AQ) to the College Football Playoff.

The Big Ten Football season kicks off this weekend with all 18 teams in action, beginning with three contests on Thursday evening, two on Friday, 12 on Saturday and one on Sunday. The 2024 campaign will be the first to feature a full slate of Big Ten games on three broadcast networks (CBS, FOX, NBC) supported by exclusive cable and streaming coverage all season on Big Ten Network, FS1 and Peacock.
