Not an EV... it is a hybrid though (non plug in).  My first ever Honda (final assembly here in Indiana).

I did get a period of free maintenance and some ancillary components.

I was more happy about the experience totaling about 90 minutes of on premises time.

Traded in the car that would be A. Costly to maintain go fwd.  B.. not a car i want my kid learning on(an A6 w 300+ hp) C. Gives me time to consider my own car and delay getting a 3rd car as long as possible.

The main reason why he won had much less to do with his celebrity and much more to do with the anti-establishment draining the swamp ending the pointless illegal foreign wars getting tough on trade message he preached and the abject failures that were the Bush II & Obama administration. We had 16 years of complete failure and incompetence by any objective measure you want to use to judge either of those two clown show Presidents. The American people were itching for an anti-establishment message, they were craving change to the status quo.

I feel like this is entirely you applying your own filter for why you want Trump and extrapolating it to everyone else. Because it's clear that you're picking your own pet issues here.

Yeah, so I know you're a card carrying Democrat type and the Democrats don't actually believe in democracy

Uhh, you mean the guy who was a registered Republican up until the mid-oughts and then became a registered Libertarian? The guy who has voted Republican or Libertarian in all Presidential elections, save one (2016)? The guy who regularly votes for the Republican in local/statewide races over the Democrat if there's no Libertarian running?

Yeah, that's me... A 'card carrying Democrat" :smiley_confused1:

Quote
Yeah, so I know you're a card carrying Democrat type and the Democrats don't actually believe in democracy, but there is in fact a Republican party, and the way the Republican party nominates it's Presidential candidates is that it holds these things called primary elections- and the winner of said primary elections secures the Republican party nomination for President. And the Republican establishment and it's mega-donors never wanted Trump.
No argument about primaries. Trump won the primary. I'm explaining how he won. I know the Republican establishment didn't want him.

But that's also exactly why I say there's no Republican Party, only the Trump Party. Because now that he's won, he's used the cult of personality to make everyone fall in line with him. Cross Trump and he will sic his sycophants on you and run you right the hell out of Dodge. There's no room in the Republican Party for anyone that is not in lockstep with him. Pretty much the entire party is now either full-throat MAGA trying to suck up to him, or keeping their heads down because they're terrified of him.

Quote
Oh and can we say there is no Democrat Party as well then going by your logic, and that there is only the Obama Party? Cause it sure as shit seems like the Democrat party has become the "what Obama says, we follow" party. Cause it was Obama that told Joe to sit this one out and picked Clinton over Biden in 2016 because Obama thought she was a better candidate. Let's not forget that it was Obama that got all the other candidates to drop out in the 2020 primaries before super Tuesday and line up and support Biden against Bernie- who was leading at the time- and it was Obama that pressured Joe to pick Harris as his VP even though Joe never wanted her. Oh yeah, and it was Obama with help from Nancy Pelosi that pressured the absolute f*ck out of Biden to step down in 2024. #Democracy.

I'm not defending the Dems here. The Dems have always been a party with an outsized role of "party elites". Remember the superdelegates? They specifically existed to make sure that the party elites could help sway the primaries to keep someone like Bernie, or someone like a Trump, out.

But specifically as to Obama? I have no doubt that he's trying to influence the party, and is successful, but what power does he have? Does everyone on the Democrat side have the fear that if you cross Obama, he's going to personally try to destroy you politically? Is he marshaling his populist army via social media to attack anyone who disagrees? You're making a serious false equivalency if you try to say that anything Obama is doing resembles Trump in the slightest.

He does. He's just quieter about it.

He has hand-picked the last three D candidates. None earned their spot.

As Chicago braces for Democratic National Convention, concerns over safety mount (msn.com)

ABC7 Chicago: “We're boarding them up tight, so that there's no entry," said Vicki Fichter, owner of Chicago Board-Up Services. Fichter said her crews have already boarded up more than a dozen businesses, and received over 40 calls for work, mainly in the West Loop, downtown and around the Daley Center.”

ALSO

NY Post: “Roughly 100,000 far-left, Israel-hating protesters will be descending on Chicago this week, sowing chaos as Democratic leaders rally around their new presidential ticket. At least seven large rallies and marches are set to take place in the Windy City while the McCormick Place Convention Center hosts Democratic National Convention.”

Listen, I don't doubt that both sides have power brokers, and that the power brokers on both sides are chummy with the donors who are going to provide the funds. If the power broker doesn't think someone can win, and the donors don't think someone can win, they're going to try to change who runs.

And yes, I absolutely 100% buy that Obama is one of those power brokers, and a powerful one.

But I don't buy that he has anything near the power over the rest of the party that Trump does over the Rs. Trump will publicly and powerfully attack ANYONE on the R side that he thinks is being disloyal. And not disloyal to Republicanism, disloyal to Trump himself.

IMHO it is a difference not only in degree but in kind.

I think you underestimate how much of a snake the man from Chicago really is.

He badly wants a fourth term.

See the post above. Snakes do things behind the scenes. Trump does it in plain view.

Barack Obama is not a good man and never has been. I know - I watched how he ascended to power. He's a snake.

The Republicans skipped a platform in 2020 and just said whatever Trump says is what we support. This time around they did bother to put a platform together, which as far as I can tell is mostly nonsense Trump talks about in speeches.

There was a platform in 2020. The same one that was from 2016. And it's the same one today.

What is the Harris platform? We can't know because she is being hidden.

What I do know is that I do not want to live in CaliSota.

No, they bothered to update it. They really love deportations and "no tax on tips!"

I would imagine some sort of platform for Harris will be unveiled at the convention. It will probably include all sorts of communist things like mass deportations, too.

Well after Trump talked about the tip taxes, we get the same proposal from Harris.

What are all those IRS agents she hired to go after tips going to do now?

If they could get rid of the special classifications for tipped workers, the "no tax on tips!" thing might be pretty good for consumers and workers. But more likely everyone will become a tipped worker.
