The Latin immigrants usually vote Dem when they are poorer, but many work hard and their kids are not poorer.  We're already seeing a shift in their voting patterns.

A bigger factor I think is urban versus rural.  As a state becomes more urban, it can shift.

This I just do not understand.

Look at just about every large city in this country and all you see is disaster at the hands of those who "lead" them.

Texas has three fast growing urban areas.

Atlanta has 60% of the population of Georgia in the metro area (most of which is suburban).

My explanation is that folks who live in a rural area need very little from government, usually.  They are used to going it on their own.  Police?  No need.  Water?  No need.  They need electricity and a Post Office and now Internet.  They are used to being independent, and by and large want to be left alone.  They also tend to be white.

Folks who live in an urban area need a lot of government, or think they do.  Cities tend to have larger poor populations who depend on government more heavily than average.   That is a reason why Republican run cities are very very rare.

I think on balance, urban areas have been growing, while some are not obviously.  I think suburban areas continue to grow fastest of the three.

Suburbs are growing because people are fleeing big cities, and then the suburbs get screwed up over time.

Some of us just move out of state, in search of friendly confines.
