In other news, we attended a concert last night that included a piano concerto.  They announced they had just obtained a new piano due to an anonymous donor (not me).

I was musing during the concerto that it sounded really good, warmer somehow, I had forgotten it was new.  My wife remarked how much better it sounded.  I had not thought a piano would really sound different to my ears.  (The pianist was Trif\oinov, who apparently is quite good.)  So, I look up how much a new one costs.

Any guesses?

$200 K.  And up.
Pianos can be outrageous. Back when I was playing keyboards (and drums and guitars and), I used one of these. Sounded great. I wish I could still play (arthritis). I sold all of my instruments and amplifiers. I can still play drums, but we have nowhere to put the set, so I sold that too, before we moved. Broke my heart.

I had a Kawai upright that we sold before we moved, but I rarely played it, and it was badly out of tune.  I used to play 1-2 hours a day when I was younger, but things change.  My wife bought me one of these a couple years back and I'm still trying to get back into it, my left hand is so weak, I do exercises but it's still not great.

The nice thing about this Yamaha is the action is "normal", it feels like a grand, but the innards are a computer and speakers.  It doesn't take up much room.  It sounds great, when I can play a piece.  I keep thinking I'm going to get back into it hard again, but other things take my eye away.

My parents have an old upright that was in my grandparents' house.  I have no idea what the brand is.  My grand parents had painted it white and gold, looked like Liberace would probably love it, and then sometime in the late 80s I helped my dad strip it all the way down to blonde wood, and then refinish it natural.  It's actually quite pretty.

Anyway, my folks want to get rid of it, and we have the room for it, although I'd have to completely rearrange our "parlor" to accommodate it.

Similar situation here.

My mom has an old upright that came from her mom's (my Grandma's) house. Grandma tried to teach me on it but I am so musically challenged that I never even figured out Mary had a Little Lamb. My brother was marginally more successful, I literally almost failed 4th grade because I couldn't master this thing:

The action on this piano is just fine.

I admit I still don't care about women s basketball, but is there a league or group of players more self destructive?

That league that had a new player brought in via draft, that's selling tickets and getting people to watch.   Other players don't seem to like all the attention she gets and, behaving like middle school girls about it.

League, and some players including own teammates seem a bit tone deaf about it.   Maybe the charter flights they now enjoy have them distracted.

Or maybe they're going full on Heel with the sport.

Not how I'd run the bidness
